It works just fine

By JD

Comments about 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod:

This anode rod has helped remove the odor from the hot water. The original 2004 vintage rod had veen reduced to the support wire with some white residue - and wasn't doing a thing. This AO Smith anode rod fit my Whirlpool 40 gallon HW heater

As a note - that original - real difficult to remove, so a good breaker bar or possibly an impact wrench along with the necessary 1-1/16" socket might be considered

Comments about 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod:

Not really much "wiz-bang" to anode rods, so about all I can say is that it was simple and easy to install, was a perfect fit for my water heater and was exactly as described.

Comments about 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod:

extend your domestic hot water tank life by checking the anode yearly , the tank has a glass lining , if there is a pin hols , you dont want the metal tank yo rust , the anode goes instead , alsoo keep temp at 125 degrees not more

  • 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod

    Q:

I need an anode for my GCVL-40 300. I believe the 3/4" standard magnesium rod will provide the best corrosion protection, followed by the 29" aluminium, followed by the 16" aluminium? Is this correct, and will they all fit my unit (with trimming if needed)? Is there a greater chance of odor with the magnesium unit?
Asked on 3/8/2014 by Brian from Summit, NJ

      A:

I have an A.O. Smith, but I believe the 3/4" size is common with all. My rods are 32". From everything I have researched, Magnesium is the best. I do not, or never have detected an odor. I change mine out every two years but it depends on how hard your water is and whether you have a water softener. Water softeners accelerate the problem! After two years, they are over half eaten up.

  • 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod

    Q:

Will this magnesium anode work in an AOS Gas Water Heater GVC-50 300 which came with a 29" aluminum anode?
    Asked on 5/10/2012 by Bob

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Yes, the anode rod would work. The length of the anode would be an issue if it was long enough to touch the bottom of the tank, but if this happened, the anode could be cut to size.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

This anode rod should be fine, as long as the extra 3" wouldn't prevent it from physically fitting inside the unit.

  • 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod

    Q:

Is this a suitable replacement anode rod for my Rheem water heater? (model 31VH40D) Current length of installed rod is 42".
Asked on 11/7/2011 by Anonymous from Bradenton, FL

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

It may work, as the threading for anode rods tends to be universal, but we couldn't say for sure. The shorter length would not be a problem, other than that the rod may not last as long.

  • 3/4" Standard Magnesium Anode Rod

    Q:

Why is a magnesium rod better then an aluminum rod?
    Asked on 11/6/2011 by Anonymous

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Magnesium isn't necessarily better. Magnesium anode rods usually come standard with water heaters, but aluminum rods are better for dealing with water that has a foul odor.
