Awesome heater

Comments about 74 Gallon ProMax High Recovery 6 Yr Warranty Residential Water Heater (Nat Gas):

I have a large house (2800 sqft) with 2 teenage boys, and we were getting about a half hour of hot water before it ran out. I upgraded from a 7 year old 50 gallon AOS ProMax Plus to this 74 gallon high recovery model. We have yet to run out of hot water, even after my wife filled our over-sized bath while my son was taking a shower.

** NOTE: Check the temperature of the water coming out, as this heater can easily heat the water to scalding temperatures. You'll want to play with the temperature setting to make sure it is safe.

I have mine set to 135 deg F.

The shipping company dented one side and after sending in pictures, PexSupply.com determined that it was cosmetic and would not interfere with the function of the heater or the warranty. Although I told them it was not necessary, they refunded $50 to cover repair costs.

** NOTE #2:
It is extremely heavy (close to 300lbs), so be sure you have a few strong people to help move it. It was too heavy for my teenage boys and I to lift it up onto the 2 ft raised pedestal required here in CA. We had to make a ramp.

Easy installation

Comments about 74 Gallon ProMax High Recovery 6 Yr Warranty Residential Water Heater (Nat Gas):

Arrived in ideal condition. I had to tip it on its side twice to get it down the patio stairs. Its packaging protected it from any damage.

Installation was a snap. First time I've had black gas pipe cut. Surprisingly easy, like tinkertoys. If you're upgrading to a larger volume heater, check the diamater. This unit is about 26" in diameter and a bit taller than my 40 gallon unit was.

We're very happy with its performance.

This heater has a big foot print than AO Smith it replace so it just fit into the space. I liked the care taken for shipping - strapping the heater in the center of a pallet to protect it.

Very pleased

Comments about 74 Gallon ProMax High Recovery 6 Yr Warranty Residential Water Heater (Nat Gas):

I had an AO Smith that lasted 13 years, then I purchased a cheaper AO smith to replace it, that had a inconsistent thermostat, so I was little wary when purchasing this one. But the ProMax series is way beyond in quality, and it really does have incredibly quick recovery. It is truly an unending supply of hot water. Controls and fittings seem to be top of the line.

Yes it is , It will not acheive the highest efficiency rating with thinner

      A:

The water heater in question is rating for 0-7700 feet. If you are at a higher altitude, you will want to contact your local company to see what will need to be done to run the unit at a higher altitude.

      A:

When I purchased my unit, I was told that there was no difference. One is more expensive simply to cover the cost of the warranty.
I generally have bad luck collecting on warranties, so I elected the cheaper one.
