Description for AO Smith GPVT-40-LP

The ProMax Power Vent water heaters have been engineered to maximize efficiency and deliver a greater energy factor (EF).

Features

  • Energy Star Qualified
    • All models meet the September 2010 Energy Star® EF requirement and may also qualify for local utility and rebate programs
    • Dynaclean II dip tube optimizes inlet water pressure to minimize cold water regions within the tank. The self-cleaning action also reduces sediment accumulation on the bottom of the tank.
    • Hot-surface ignitor is more robust and reliable than standing pilot, and reduces energy consumption.
    • Built-in heat traps on the water inlet and outlet reduce the amount of heat lost through piping
    • 2-inch, thick, "Environmentally-Friendly" foam insulation reduces the amount of heat loss and contributes to overall energy efficiency
  • Versatile Power Vent Design
    • All models feature an exclusive 3-position rotatable blower outlet which adds flexibility
    • Combined horizontal and vertical vent runs up to 180 equivalent feet with 4" diameter venting (ABS, PVC, CPVC and polypropylene)
    • All models are equipped with a protected sensor that detects the presence of flammable vapors and automatically disables the burner to prevent ignition
    • Air intake snorkel elevates the inlet location of combustion air to prevent flammable vapors from entering the sealed combustion chamber
    • Reduced NOx emissions comply with air quality management district regulations
  • User-Friendly
    • State-of-the-art electronic gas control provides more precise temperature control
    • LED control light displays operation status and diagnostics information
    • Factory-installed T&P and a durable, tamper-resistant brass drain valve are positioned for service accessibility
  • Available in Natural Gas and Propane
  • 6 year limited tank and parts warranty

PLEASE NOTE: The product weighs 176 lbs. and may require the use of a
    lift gate.

Comments about 40 Gallon - 50,000 BTU ProMax Power Vent Residential Gas Water Heater:

This thing works great. I have only had it a few weeks but so far so good. The water is so hot I had to turn it down to almost the lowest setting. Fast free shipping is another great feature from SupplyHouse.com.

Comments about 40 Gallon - 50,000 BTU ProMax Power Vent Residential Gas Water Heater:

The product arrived in perfect condition, and the crew delivering it were well aware of the special instructions from SupplyHouse.com.

As for the unit, it was very easy to install less one item. The water connections and gas connections are standard stuff for install. The power vent is easy as well, but the directions call for different rodent screens depending how long of a vent you use. I initially followed the instructions to a "T" and found that I was triggering an error code caused by some back pressure on the power vent. I ended up putting the screen in versus the plastic shield and that fixed the problem.

As others have said, a power vent does produce more noise than a gravity vent. This should be expected, and the unit is actually much quieter than a Kenmore I have in another property.

Overall I am very pleased with SupplyHouse.com (PexSupply when I bought the item) and with the water heater. I would buy from the site again, and most likely the same unit assuming that the product runs great for the next couple years. I have only had the product in use for a couple weeks at this point.

Comments about 40 Gallon - 50,000 BTU ProMax Power Vent Residential Gas Water Heater (LP):

I had searched for this water heater for two weeks before finding it at PexSupply. I was very impressed with customer service during more than one call for information about this product. I recently had it installed by a local plumbing company, who was also impressed with the packing and delivery. I am so glad that I watched the video. I followed the instructions on how to accept(or not accept) the shipment. So far, it has been working perfectly.

this water heater is a great unit giving us all the hot water we need...recovery time is exceptionally fast. only thing I could say negative, would be the blower is a little noisy,(like a home furnace)...customer service is great making sure you understand exactly how to receive a hot water heater inspecting for dents and other possible damages. yes I would buy this again!!!

Comments about 40 Gallon - 50,000 BTU ProMax Power Vent Residential Gas Water Heater:

I didn't install the product but I watched the process, it was quick and easy with only one pipe needing to be refitted.
This water heater is so quiet I don't even know when it is running and the water is HOT I have it on the lowest setting. The electric pilot feature was why I bought this I didn't want to be having to light a pilot light.

No complaints so far

    Q:

why do you need a power vent water heater-I just bought 2-40gal & the pilot light goes out after a few hours,do l need a power vent ,the original ones lasted 18 yrs venting from basement to chimney
    Asked on 4/27/2014 by R D from waterford,mi

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Power vent water heaters generally have blower motors that allow them to exhaust horizontally out side walls. They still pull combustion air from indoors. Direct vent units also have blowers, but they have a second vent pipe for bringing intake air from outdoors.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The minimum clearance venting requirement for windows which can be opened is 4ft below or to the sides of the opening and 1ft above. For permanently closed windows a minimum of 1ft on all sides is required.

  • 40 Gallon - 50,000 BTU ProMax Power Vent Residential Gas Water Heater

    Q:

Hi, I would like to know if this heater draws intake air from the outside of the house. Thanks,Carl
Asked on 8/31/2012 by termite from reading PA

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Power vent units like this one draw combustion air from inside the house. Direct vent models bring intake air from outdoors and require either a second protrusion from the building or a concentric vent kit in order to do this.
