The first A.O. Smith water heater I received was damaged. Pex was willing to send me a replacement at no cost to me. It just arrived and looks great. They stand behind their promises so it was a joy to do business with them.

  • 50 Gallon ProMax Residential Electric Water Heater - Tall Model (10 Yr Warranty)

    Q:

We presently have an AO Smith 50 gal electric water tank located in our garage for our home which is 16 yrs. old and working fine but we think we should replace it before it has a problem. It has an expansion tank on top of it. Can this expansion tank be used or should it be replaced with the new tank? We plan on buying an AO Smith PCT-52, 50 gal ProMax residential Electric Water Heater which is approximately the same size (height & width) we have.
Asked on 5/11/2014 by Shirl from Naples, Fl

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The expansion tank could be reused if it is still able to hold its charge. We would probably recommend replacing it, however (especially if it is close to the same age as the water heater). Expansion tank bladders can rupture over time, and replacing it when you replace the water heater would be an ideal time. An Amtrol ST-5 expansion tank (part 140N43) should be a good choice with a 50-gallon heater.

    Q:

I have 208V supply do i need a special element?
Asked on 8/25/2012 by KY from NJ

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The elements that come with the water heater should be fine on 208v-it would not require a special element. The heater is rated for 240v and has 2/4500 watts heating elements. Running on 208v you will not get the full 4500 watts which will take longer to heat (recover).

  • 50 Gallon ProMax Residential Electric Water Heater - Tall Model (10 Yr Warranty)

    Q:

How many amps does it draw and what size wire and circuit breaker do I need?
Asked on 8/13/2012 by Gary from Madison ,WI

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The amp draw is based on the wattage and voltage; the formula is watts divided by voltage equals amp draw. An example would be a standard PCt 4500 watts and 240 voltage is an 18.75 amp draw. We would suggest a 30amp breaker 10 gauge wire and to always check with local code requirements that may supersede the manufacturer's information.
