Description for AO Smith SUN-80

AO Smith ProMax 80 and 120-gallon electric water heaters are specially designed for installation as part of direct solar water heating systems. They provide an energy efficient supplementary source of water heating power and hot water storage to help maintain consistent water temperature during periods when the direct solar components cannot keep up with system demands.

Features:

  • Multiple Connection Options for Installation Flexibility - Side and top Connections for open loop systems or closed loop systems using an external heat exchanger
  • Dynaclean Diffuser Dip Tube - Helps reduce lime and sediment buildup to maximize hot water output Made from long-lasting PEX cross-linked polymer
  • Long-Lasting, Low-Watt-Density Heating Element - Low-watt density design spreads wattage over larger surface area to prolong element life and help ensure optimum energy-efficiency
  • PermaGlas Glass Tank Coating - Patented PermaGlas lining helps maximize tank life corrosion and rust
  • Coregard Anode Rod Plus Secondary Anode - Aluminum anode with stainless steel core protects tank against corrosion longer than ordinary anodes. Secondary anode installed in hot water outlet for even more protection
  • 2" Thick Environmentally Friendly Non-CFC Foam Insulation (R16 Value) - reduces standby heat loss

Comments about 80 Gallon - 4,500 Watt ProMax Residential Electric Indirect Solar Booster Water Heater:

this is a replacement tank for our 20 yr old one that sprang a leak. since this tank is 4" taller, had to refit the solar collector side and the water service side, so it was more involved than a simple swap. everything hooked up fine, just hope we get another 20 out of it like our old one - it had only a 6 yr warranty too like the new one. Proof in the puddin's my motto.

  • 80 Gallon - 4,500 Watt ProMax Residential Electric Indirect Solar Booster Water Heater

    Q:

    Hi there,

I need to replace an older indirect 80 gallon tank, but I don't need the heater. Is this tank available without the heater, or do I just not connect it.
Asked on 10/13/2013 by CaBrit from SoCal

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The SUN-80 is not an indirect unit, and would not be a suitable replacement for an indirect water heater as it has no internal heat exchanger.
