A telephone call is all it took, got someone LIVE right away who was very helpful. I explained what I was looking for which was a 12 x 12 access door that mounts in the opening of the drywall from a repair job. I asked several other questions regarding exact what the dimensions needed to be on my side and was assured that what was suggested would do the trick. I had searched at many locations for the door and considering several others I found were bare metal doors and priced 2 and 3 times more. I am very satisfied with what I ordered and will come back if I need additional items. Thank you.

Just beware that the photo is not of the 4" x 6" product. The edge is much larger in proportion to the opening. The photo must be of a much larger product. I did need to sand the latch down a bit to make it easier to open. It does the job though. I only need to open it twice a year to access a water valve. Couldn't find anything else that looked OK on the ceiling. I primed it and painted it to match the ceiling. Looks good.

Comments about 12" x 12" Plastic Access Door:

I purchased two access panels. Installation was simple and the construction adhesive holds them in place just as if they were nailed on. Very clean looking on the wall. Simple to pop open with a slotted screwdriver and closed tightly.

Comments about 8" x 8" Plastic Access Door:

This access door was the perfect size for the job. It installs easily, even if your sheetrock opening is not perfectly square. The cover sits quite flush to the wall and looks just fine. A great product and a great value for the price. Also note: Supply House was the only vendor that enough of these in stock for our needs (we needed 12 of them)and shipped them the same day.

    Q:

is the door hinged, or does it merely come off when snapped open?
    Asked on 7/19/2016 by Don

      A:

My door was not hinged. It is simply a press in fit that is fairly tight.

What is the next size up that is 14" wide? My hole was cut at 16" high, just a bit to high for the 14 x 14 to cover all the hole.

    Q:

how tough is the plastic? I want to install it on the floor of my recording studio (low foot traffic). I got a raised floor with an opening for cables and I need a finished look.

The manufacturer does not recommend using this door on the floor in areas with potential foot traffic.

Sadly I don't think it will be strong enough for continuous walking on.

      A:

This access door is definitely not going to hold up to foot traffic.

      Answered on 6/25/2012 by Anonymous
    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

I don't think it is designed to be stepped on. And I doubt low foot traffic really matters. It would only have to be stepped on once the right way to break, so whether it takes a month or a year before that happens, what's the difference. Metal access doors are available and they are probably stronger, although I doubt they are designed to withstand foot traffic. Contact the manufacturer to find out.
If you can't find any commercial access door strong enough, then make your own. It isn't too hard. You could make it out of plywood with a simple hinge. Cover the plywood door with the same finish as the rest of the floor.

  • 4" x 6" Plastic Access Door

    Q:

I am finding the door very difficult to open. Am I doing something wrong? There is a slot that I assume is for inserting and twisting something like a screwdriver. I eventually got the door open but I believe continued opening this way will damage the plastic.

That is the method to use, make sure you pry in the correct spot and use the thinest device you can find. Laurence

      A:

The doors are installed by applying caulking adhesive to the back of the frame and pressing into place. They come standard with a white finish, but can be painted to match the surrounding area.

Cut hole the size of door and it fit right into space, but we also fastened to wall with screws and drywall anchors(?). Product is lightweight and it worked great. It is paintable.
