How can you beat 32 years of trouble-free no maintenance-at-all service?
I asked the customer if they wanted a bigger unit, and they said they had never run out of hot water. Never.
I always put a vacuum breaker on both sides of these units (they have a poly liner) and pre-fab anything that connects to the potable water, then fill the tank before piping the boiler loop to prevent heat damage. Don't put shut-off valves on both inlet and outlet unless you provide an expansion tank.
These really are a nice product; so good that I even installed one in my parents house!

I purchased this to replace Amtrol Boilermate 41 gallon installed in 1988 that was leaking internally back into the boiler.

For reasons that I can't understand, the plumbing lines were moved around (water supply moved a full 180 degrees) on this unit from previous version which complicated the install significantly. Drain valve on bottom of tank was eliminated on new model as well, thus requiring me to plumb in a drain valve I wasn't anticipating.

Also, no controller was provided with the unit requiring me to scavenge controller from old unit - even more work and confusion that I was not expecting.

What could have (should have) been an easy retrofit became an 8+ hour ordeal as a result. I know 30 years is a long time, but the changes made by Amtrol complicate what should have been an easy swap out in my opinion. Had I known this was not a drop in replacement, I might have researched more and purchased a different unit.

I you buy this unit to retrofit an older unit - buyer beware - you are likely signing up for a bigger project than you may think.

Throughout our 40 yrs in this house we've gone from tankless oil DHW to wallmounted flash boilers. This is by far the best solution to providing ENDLESS hot water.

Replaced 20 year old WH-7

By Dah821WY

Comments about 41 Gallon WH-41Z BoilerMate Classic Series Indirect-Fired Water Heater:

My old one failed after 20 years of service. The price is a little higher, but if I can get 20 years out of this one, that is fine. Heats water well, and fast, no problems so far.

A big problem is that it was not quite the same height as the old one so I had to replumb the whole water inlet, and boiler pipes to make it work. It took 5 hours by myself to install it ang get it in the basement.

Great product

Comments about 41 Gallon WH-41Z BoilerMate Classic Series Indirect-Fired Water Heater:

The original Amtrol was installed over 18 years and performed flawlessly, Probably because it was a basic model without all the modern technology upgrades. That is why I replaced it again with the "Classic Series"!! Extremely hard water in our area
CAUSED IT TO FAIL.
The new one did however require some minor re- plumbimg to fit up to the existing system.Supply line had to be rotated 180 degrees.

Comments about 41 Gallon WH-41Z BoilerMate Classic Series Indirect-Fired Water Heater:

Older tanks have all the electrical componets installed. Imagine my surprise when I opened the control box and found an aquastat switch only. Had to use the old aquastat and relay system in order to give the customer regulated hot water. Should say a control box needed for installation when changing out an older tank. Otherwise everything else went smoothly and it works fine.
