Description for Baseboarders BB001-72

Use this Retrofitting Guide to verify that your existing baseboard heaters will fit the one-size-fits-most baseboard heater cover replacements.

For Hydronic (hot water type) Baseboard Heaters. Baseboarders are not to be installed over electric baseboard heaters.

The Panel Height of this baseboard is 6-3/4" and the Endcap Height is 7-1/2". For more info. please check out the Scale Template PDF in the Resources section.

Warranty: Lifetime warranty covers against the development of any rust. Original purchaser only.

Features:

  • Curved Elegant Design
  • Made of 22 gauge perforate steel.
  • Features TWO separate layers of protection against rust: an electroplated galvanized coating over the carbon steel and an epoxy-based powder coat in semi-gloss white.
  • Designed to retrofit on to most existing baseboard heater covers.
  • Superior Airflow... Airflow is the critical factor in proper baseboard heating. We use a perforated steel screen that visually hides the originally installed heater cover while ensuring that the heating element receives proper airflow.
  • Safer around children than traditional baseboard covers... The dangers associated with hot finned tube heating elements are well known. Our one-piece design doesn't allow for little fingers or small flammable toys to be placed inside the heater via the top gap where the heat comes out.
  • Simple to Install... It just doesn't get any easier. Only the non-permanent components of the existing heater cover are discarded. The back cover that is mechanically fastened to the wall stays in place.
  • Baseboarders are made of steel and will get just as hot as the original covers.

Looks good

Comments about 6' DIY Premium Baseboard Heater Cover:

I used these to replace Slant Fin covers that had been painted multiple times. These look very good in my dining room.
However, they are very expensive and I only used them in one of the 2 rooms that needed them.

Pro:
Very clean looking
Because the holes are so small I will not have to pick up Lego's that have fallen in the slant fin

Con:
Cost

If you have the extra money, they look good.

A bit on the expensive side but you get what you pay for. Excellent product and easy install but have a pair of tin snips on hand just in case length exceeds your space. Supply House packed with great care and order was received in 48 hours. A few minutes of effort, a moderate investment, and a greatly improved look.

Awesome product!

By Jeff

Comments about 4' DIY Premium Baseboard Heater Cover:

I purchased one 4ft cover just because I wanted to make sure it was going to fit properly and be worth the expense. I ordered the cover on Monday, it arrived today (Wednesday). I had to use a pair of tin snips to make it fit over the pipe, which didn't take much effort. The product is very sturdy and not very pliable, so make sure you have a good pair of snips.

After I made my cuts, the cover slid right over that ugly, old, rusted baseboard in my bathroom and instantly transformed the room.

I came back and ordered three more sections to finish off the bathroom.

I will definitely be back for more as we continue to renovate the rest of the house.

Comments about 6' DIY Premium Baseboard Heater Cover:

Our baseboard htg is over 40 years old and I wanted a new cover. I saw an ad in This Old House for Supply House for Baseboarders. It is a superior product!!!!!!!! They are beautiful and look so beautiful in our bathroom remodel. I called the company before I ordered to see how they packed. They told me they will be packed very well and they were. Arrived in beautiful condition, not a scratch or a dimple on the metal. I highly recommend this company and their superior customer service. 5 Stars

I am planning on ordering, but I recently removed the back plate from my old baseboard cover and disposed of it. I saw in the installation video that you could do use wall mounts for the new baseboard cover. Is it safe or wise to not have a back plate?

I think Supply House has some brackets you can buy, however, I use some 1x2

      Hello Bratt,
sorry,  I'm not a home heating expert so I can't answer your question
about safety..but I think using some kind of solid wall mount could
be your solution. I have installed the new baseboard cover on top of old
      back plate.

      Answered on 11/21/2014 by Anonymous
    • A:

If the original back plate has been removed, Baseboarders can be safely and properly mounted to the wall using Baseboarders wall brackets. The part number is WB001. Wall brackets are readily available from SupplyHouse.com. WB001 wall brackets will mount both Premium and Basic product lines. Use a minimum of two wall brackets per panel. Mount only at stud locations.

I spliced two units together for my wall. There is a slightly visible covered seam, but it is not that noticeable. You have to decide if the seam would bother you. If you're going to have furniture in front, then splice. If it is going to be a long wall with an uninstructed view, then just evaluate your comfort level.

I would order 2- 7 foot pieces and cut them with a hacksaw. The coupler for the 2 pieces will give you about a half inch to cover any paint that might chip.

SINGLE PIECE WOOD LOOK THE BEST, BUT SHIPPING PIECES THAT LONG WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO KEEP STRAIGHT.
I DON'T KNOW IF THERE ARE CONNECTORS OR NOT.  THE HEATER COVERS FIT OVER THE BACKING PLATE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE WALL.  THE END COVERS ARE SOLID AND WOULD HAVE TO BE MODIFIED IF USED TO CONNECT 2 PIECES.
THE COVERS ARE IN MY BATHROOMS AND HAVE WORKED OUT VERY WELL.
      HOPE THIS HELPS.

Are there clips or attachment accessories that come with the product or are recommended for fixing to the wall?

      A:

You don't need any special attachments to mount it to the wall. Normal wood screws into studs will be fine. It is also able to slide in place over an existing baseboard (which is what I did) will no screws needed.
The metal is stronger than I expected but I think a standard metal cutting circular blade would work best. I don't think tin snips will work.

No special clips come with it. It fits over the existing back (I was replacing a 30 year old cover). You might have to loosen the old cover ((if you have one)
BTW the new cover looks great! and is a cinch to install!

      A:

It has been some time since I installed the baseboard covers but if memory
serves me, the cover is secured by a portion of the cover sliding behind the
existing baseboard and then further secured by the end caps. It was not a
complicated installation. I am extremely pleased by the outcome. The price
may seem a bit high for the covers but the alternative of removing the
section of baseboard and replacing it would be far more work and likely
      require a plumber.

There are no clips needed, as the product hangs on to the existing support of the old baseboard heating supply. We had it custom cut by the pex company, but the end caps cover the cut area. We really LOVE this product it never rusts, and easy to keep clean...worth every penny!

Baseboarders covers can be attached to the backplates of existing baseboards. In new construction projects or installations in which backplate installation is not possible, wall brackets (part WB001) can be purchased separately.

      THE COVER MEASURES 7 INCHES.
THE BACKING PLATE ON YOUR OLD COVER WILL PROBABLY BE 7.5 ABOVE THE FLOOR.
THE END COVER PLATES WILL BE 7.5
IF THE TOP OF YOUR PRESENT IS LESS, THEN YOU MAY HAVE TO RAISE IT OR ORDER CUSTOM END CAPS

Baseboarders replacement covers always have the same height regardless of the length. If the height of the current covers is less than 7-1/2", you would need to remove the backplates and install the Baseboarders covers with wall brackets (part WB001).

In reality the rusting of the covers occurs from the humidity which rises during showers. I have the same condition but the heaters are opposite the toilets, no spray! Paint the heaters and always use the exhaust fan to control moisture, mold, rust etc, or replace with DIY baseboard heater covers.

Yes I used a tin snips to cut the material , its a little bit of work but take your time to cut as straight as you can ( the end cover will hide any rough edges anyway. Also use gloves as the cut end can be sharp. I have used these covers on almost all of my baseboard radiators, they look great and will not rust, even if used in the bathroom, have had for over 3 yrs now and they look brand new. You can use a plyers after the cut to even out the edge.

If by custom, you mean ordering a certain length that is not offered, I don't think so. I think I asked Pex Supply the same thing. But it is very easy to purchase a pair of heavy duty shears to cut the covers to fit your size. That is what I did for lengths that were smaller than what was available and it worked just fine.
