Bradford White's high efficiency, energy saver, atmospheric vent residential gas water heater features the Defender Safety System® and offers additional insulation and integral heat traps to reduce stand-by heat loss.

Features:

  • Bradford White ICON System - Intelligent gas control with proven millivolt powered technology and built-in piezo igniter. A standard, off the shelf thermopile converts heat energy from the pilot flame into electrical energy to operate the gas valve and microprocessor. No need for external electricity.
  • Enhanced Performance - Proprietary algorithms provide enhanced First Hour Delivery ratings and tighter temperature differentials.
  • Advanced Temperature Control System - Microprocessor constantly monitors and controls burner operation to maintain consistent and accurate water temperature levels.
  • Intelligent Diagnostics - An exclusive green LED light prompts the installer during start-up and provides ten different diagnostic codes to assist in troubleshooting.
  • Pilot On Indication - Flashing green LED provides positive indication that pilot is on.
  • Separate Immersed Thermowell - High strength advanced polymer composite thermowell provides isolation between electric temperature sensor and surrounding water. No need to drain the tank when removing gas valve.
  • Advanced ScreenLok® Technology Flame Arrestor Design - Flame arrestor is designed to prevent ignition of flammable vapor outside of the water heater.
  • Resettable Thermal Switch - Proven and reliable bimetallic switch prevents burner and pilot operation in case of ongoing flammable vapor burn inside of the combustion chamber or restricted air flow.
  • Maintenance Free - No regular cleaning of air inlet openings or flame arrestor is required under normal conditions.
  • Sight Window - Offers a view into the combustion chamber to observe the operation of the pilot and burner.
  • Factory Installed Hydrojet® Total Performance System - Cold water inlet sediment reducing device helps prevent sediment build up in tank. Increases first hour delivery of hot water while minimizing temperature build up in tank.
  • Vitraglas® Lining - Bradford White tanks are lined with a exclusively engineered enamel formula that provides superior protection from the highly corrosive effects of hot water. This formula (Vitraglas®) is fused to the steel surface by firing at a temperature of over 1600ºF.
  • 2" Non-CFC Foam Insulation - Covers the side and top, reducing the amount of heat loss. This results in less energy consumption, improved operation efficiencies and jacket rigidity.
  • Pedestal Base.
  • Water Connections -3/4" NPT factory installed true dielectric fittings.
  • Factory Installed Heat Traps.
  • Protective Magnesium Anode Rod.
  • 3x4 "Snap Lock" Draft Diverter - Allows either 3" or 4" vent connections with inputs of 40,000 BTU/Hr or less.
  • T&P Relief Valve - Included.
  • Brass Drain Valve - Tamper proof design.

AWESOME! Lots of hot water, lower bills!

Comments about 40 Gallon - 40,000 BTU Defender Safety System Energy Star High Efficiency Residential Water Heater (Nat Gas) - T&P Valve On Top:

After extensive research I found that this model was the best value -- it offers a low purchase price, excellent energy efficiency, and easy installation. I was prepared to install a tankless heater, but after considering installation costs vs. monthly savings it was out of the question. This model is extremely well built and it provides gallon after gallon of REALLY hot water. And the best part...my gas bill has dropped! Its easy to install (just pipe cold supply, hot to the home, gas supply and hook up the flue) and you're done. I'm an amateur homeowner and I was able to get the job done with a little help from a friend and a few basic instructions I got from youtube on how to sweat copper pipe. My experience with pexsupply.com has also been great. Shipping was free and fast, and customer support was wonderful.

I'm very happy with this water heater. It was easy to install. I have not found anything that I do not like. It is a great value for the money. I shopped around and found nothing that even compares in price for value.

    Q:

MY DAD HAD A BRADFORD WHITE MI40T6FBN4-337 WATER HEATER. HOW MANY GALLONS AND RECOVERY TIME IS IT ? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YEAR IT MAY HAVE BEEN PUT IN AND HOW MANY YEARS WARRANTY IT MAY HAVE ? THE NEW PERSON LIVING IN THE HOUSE CLAIMS IT DOESN'T DELIVER ENOUGH HOT WATER FOR THE 2ND PERSON. IT IS NOT RUSTED NOR DOES IT DRAIN ANY WATER. YET THEY COMPLAIN THAT THE WATER GETS COLD WHILE THE 2ND PERSON IS IN IT.

      A:

The -337 suffix indicates that the unit is configured for high-altitude operation. You should be able to determine the age of the unit based on its serial number (see the link below for more information). Your heater has a six-year warranty. The heater could simply be undersized for the demands that the new tenants place on it.

I'm afraid I might not be much help. I installed my Bradford about 3 years
ago (maybe? I forget exactly) and I have a family of 5. We have never run
out of hot water. As hot water heaters age, the spouts inside the tank
that bring fresh tap water down to the heating elements rust out...you
can't see it on the outside, its something internal. My old water heater
was about 15 years old and I experienced the same thing you are complaining
about: just enough hot water for one person. My guess is that the water
heater you have is going bad (particularly the pipe I mentioned). It could
be that you live in an area with particularly hard water or salty water
that caused the pipe to deteriorate quickly.
Check the date of manufacture on the tank itself. Perhaps there may be
      time on the warranty?
Otherwise, I did a TON of research before buying my Bradford White and I'll
definitely replace it with another. They are the best built machines in
      the industry.

installed this unit in my home about 8 months ago and I've noticed a drop
in my energy bills! You won't be disappointed!!!

This is my second Bradford White the first one lasted 15 years. The turbulator is what makes this s great unit. Delivers consistent demand for hot water. Quality tank and one of the last American made WH companies. In Houston you can only buy through s licensed plumber. Bought mine from PEX free freight inched the deal.

      A:

The energy factor for the unit M-4-403S6FBN-TOPTP is .62, according to the
Bradford White Energy Factor chart on their website at
http://www.bradfordwhite.com/energyfactor_natural.asp , where the unit is
listed as M4403S6FBN. The fact that the T&P valve is on top should have no
      bearing on the energy factor.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Placement of the T&P valve should be dependent on the size of the space in which you are putting the water heater. If it is a narrow area, for example, you will want to place it on the top of the unit. Models M-4-403S6FBN and M-4-40T6FBN both have an Energy Factor of .62

      A:

      Dick,

There is no advantage nor disadvantage to the placement of the T&P Valve. If the valve is on top, it just means you have to put a 90 degree elbow on the pipe to direct the overflow water down to the ground. If the valve is on the side, you don't.
