Description for EWC Controls 4URD

A single blade round damper with a (2) two position, 24 volt motor. The motor is powered both ways - powered open and powered closed. The motor features LED's that indicate the position of the motor whether open or closed. The LED's are colored RED for closed and GREEN for open. These indictors are a failsafe measure meaning that they will not illuminate until the blade of the damper has gone to its full open or full closed position. The motor is a 3 wire hook-up with a common, a power open leg and a power closed leg.

Well Made and Works Perfectly

Comments about 12" URD Motorized Damper:

The price for this damper was really good and I'm very happy with the quality of construction. I've daisy-chained it to another power-open, power-close damper on one of the three zones, and it works perfectly.

Nice product

Comments about 8" URD Motorized Damper:

This damper appears to be sturdily constructed. The vane shaft rides in nylon bearings and it operates very smoothly. It has a nice flexible seal around the damper plate. The motor drive works very smoothly. I'm pleased with it. I installed it to be driven by a Honeywell TrueZONE HZ432K Panel Kit and it's working very well.

Comments about 8" URD Motorized Damper:

Really makes it easy to add a zone to your hvac system. You have to have a EWC control box to control everything. After its all set up it works flawlessly. PexSupply has it for a good price and shipping was really quick.

    Q:

Can this product be used in the kitchen exhaust system-I have a 30" Broan Range hood, cabinet mount it is ventilated thru the attic/roof via 8" ductwork. I have a problem with significant backdraft-kitchen is significantly humid even when not using the stove. I installed a spring loaded backdraft preventer in the ductwork, right under the roof cap, it did not help.

      A:

If the damper is fully closed when the kitchen fan is off AND there are no air leaks in the fan exhaust ducting the damper will minimize backdraught when the fan is off.

      A:

Probably not. This damper is not designed to work with oil/grease vapor
in the air (unless filter removes all fat and grease from the exhaust
air). Oil and grease will destroy a rubber seal over time. Secondly,
this damper requires power to open and close (three wire system). It
means you have to figure out how to supply power when the hood is off.
And one more thing, the damper works from 24 VAC, which most range hoods
      do not have.
You may try Honeywell fresh air damper EARD8, but a few problems still
exist - resistance to oil/grease and 24 VAC power supply. Plus, keep in
mind that it will take 30 seconds for this damper to open (I am pretty
sure there is a mistake in specification - damper is normally closed and
      needs power to open).
Also you may check amazon.com - they may have dampers for 110VAC.

Try to experiment yourself. Close a exhaust for a day or two with rag, paper or towel and see if you solve a problem. If you did you can install a motorized damper. If not look for a problem someplace else.
