Description for Easy Heat ADKS400

EasyHeat roof and gutter de-icing products are engineered to protect properties from the damage caused by ice dam formations. EasyHeat's electric heating cables economically and efficiently reduce ice formation along roof edges, in gutters, drains and downspouts to provide a path for meltwater, allowing it to flow off the structure.

ADKS is a fixed resistance, pre-terminated cable. It is CSA Certified and UL Listed to Canadian safety standards. Features a three wire grounded plug with a 6-foot/2-meter power cord, and includes an appropriate number of roof clips and cable spacers.

This product is for the sole intended use of preventing ice dams from forming on inclined roofs with tab shingles, in gutters and in downspouts. It must never be installed on a flat roof or on combustible materials. It is not suitable for use on metal roofs.

Includes:

  • De-icing Cable
  • Shingle Clips
  • Cable Spacers
  • Installation Instructions

no- if its plugged in its on. If you want automatic control of OFF/ON you will need thermosensor unit to turn tape on when temperature drops below set point. They range from simple (15 bucks to complex...)

No, when it's on - it's on & when it's off- it's off. Up to the homeowner
to unplug them when not in use. They do work though , I have them the full
length of my house and garage. I love them, great investment.

DO NOT USE ON PLASTIC OR RUBBER AS CABLE GETS FAIRLY WARM, MAY MELT OR WARP. USE METAL CLIPS THAT COME WITH CABLE MAY HAVE TO MODIFY A LITTLE TO CLIP ON IF THE GUTTER HELMET IS ALUMINUM

Sorry, I don't know.  I think it would require some imagination since the bottom of the heat tape system connects in the gutter.

160ft is rated at 800w. To find the total Kwh per month, multiply the number of hours of operation by 0.8

Not really sure how much it uses. I have a big house & have it on (3) 40ft
& (2) 27th roofs + in the gutters & down thru the downspout drains. My
electric bill did take a hike but is well worth it as I have had NO
ice/snow issues. Sorry I couldn't be more specific with the cost

      A:

No I would not recommend wrapping deicing cables around the downspout. They go inside the downspout, you need the heat inside

      Answered on 2/10/2014 by Anonymous
    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Yes, inside or outside the downspout. I suggest inside. Not sure of the impact on the outside with freezing downspouts.

      A:

Yes but doesn't stay wrapped around it very well. I also dropped some down
inside my downspout. Between both inside and around downspout + along roof
edges I've had NO ice build up or problems in past 2yrs.

Probably but it won't do its job there. Won't put out enough heat

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

You might be able to, but the best solution is to feed the cable down the interior of the downspout. You can create a "U" with the cable connecting the length needed with the connectors provided. This method allows you to use one cable for the eave and the downspouts. Just make sure the cable you buy is long enough. I had two downspouts in one run of getters and was able to do this with no issues. On my longest run (68') I used two of the longest cables starting at each end and met in the middle.

It is not recommended by the manufacturer. The use of an extension cord with this cable may increase the risk of fire or electric shock. Please refer to pages 6 and 7 of the manual below for electrical requirements.

    Q:

Is there a thermostat to control on and off ?
Asked on 5/23/2011 by Jerry from Huntley, IL

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The ADKS cable uses an RS2 ("Roof Sentry Controller") thermostat. The RS2 is set to turn on the ADKS cable only when the ambient temperature drops below 40°F and, at the same time, at least 10 inches of the moisture sensor wire detects moisture. These two conditions need to be present at the same time to turn on the ADKS heating cable. If one of the conditions is not present, it will turn off or it will not energize the ADKS cable.
