Description for Easy Heat PSR1075

If you need to maintain proper pipe temperatures in applications that range from residential freeze protection to commercial maintenance flow-control processes, rely on the proven performance of EasyHeat pipe tracing products.

EasyHeat, your industry leader in pipe freeze prevention and roof-and-gutter deicing applications, introduces PSR pre-terminated, self-regulating heating cable. Imagine the convenience: each PSR cable is a pre-terminated, off-the-shelf product with the efficiency and functionality of self-regulating technology. With this built-in application flexibility, PSR becomes a first-choice solution for your heat tracing needs.

PSR is a parallel resistance cable with factory sealed connections. It is manufactured with water-resistant TPE outer jacket, UL Listed to Canadian safety standards and CSA Certified for ordinary locations. Rated at 5 watts per foot at 50ºF. 120 VAC models have integral three-wire plug with pilot light; 240 VAC models have three-wire pigtail.

Features:

  • Prevent water pipes from freezing
  • Prevent the formation of ice dams on roof tops
  • Suitable for use on metal and plastic pipes up to 2-1/2" in diameter
  • All cables have a 30" cold lead
  • Pilot light in the plug on 120 VAC
  • PSR 120 VAC heating cables have a power indicator light in the plug, visual assurance that the system is energized.
  • Cable can be overlapped if necessary
  • Self-regulating heating cable means energy efficiency. The heat output is varied in relation to the ambient temperature. As the surrounding temperature increases, the heat output of the PSR cable decreases. But when the temperature decreases, the cable heat output increases and provides the heat needed along the length of the cable.

The PSR system can be installed with the confidence that it will operate satisfactorily for years. When it comes to freeze protection, stay with the leader - Easy Heat.

Perfect device to keep a hummingbird feeder from freezing up in the winter if you live where winters are mild and there are hummingbird species who prove willing to winter over with you and your feeder. The hummers will even sit on the heat cable windings next to the feeder for warmth on particularly nasty weather days. Here in the Puget Sound region, last winter there were days with morning lows below 20 deg F. This cable wrapped around my inverted glass bottle type feeder allowed the food to stay liquid and the Anna's hummers to have breakfast at the crack of dawn. There were hummer battles over my feeder on these mornings, possibly because other feeders had frozen in the neighborhood.

The lead-in part of the cable is too short; in fact shorter than other heat cables -- only about 24" I wish that it were 6'.( 72")

Gets barely warm, but at least just enough to function as needed.

Application is roof edge deicing, applied in triangles pretty much according to instructions.

However enclosed instructions are rather poor, with insufficient detail and very small drawings. I was able, with only a bit of difficulty, to figure it out myself. Enclosed instructions are definitely lacking!

I recommend applying 24" aluminum flashing over comp shingles, which reduces friction and facilitates snow sliding into gutter.

In the north (WA state), winter can bring frozen hummingbird feeders, which threatens these tiny fiesty flying demons who choose to winter-over. The Easy Heat 6ft cable works well wrapped around the feeder, secured with some electical tape and Velcro strips. The feeder doesn't become too hot or cold for the hummers. Sometimes the birds sit on the warm cable parts warming up.

I wrapped this around my underground water pipe and up to the house. The weather has not been cold yet so can not give a yes or no as to whether it works or not. Ask me next spring and see if I have had any frozen pipes. I guess that I would recommend it but can't tell for sure, YET!

I used this product as a heat cable on a very low pitched rubber roof. This was the product that was recommended for this use. The heat cable was very well constructed, compared to regular roof heat cables.

[...] I missed the window to install the cable and will have to wait until the weather clears again. Otherwise the products will definiely do the job.

Used the 12' PSR to thaw out a downspout. It was totally full of ice, so I tie wrapped it to outside of downspout. It was clear in a day and has never been clogged with ice since. I bought two more 18' for other downspouts. These will installed inside of the downspout and down into the soil pipes as per the recommendations from easy heat. Note- these are used in addition to roof cables to allow melt water to drain.

The SR Trace would have an average heat density or a nominal power output in ice of about 8 watts per foot. Therefore, it is safe to say that PSR would also have an average heat density of 8 watts per foot when de-icing.

The first winter, I just tie-wrapped it to outside of a solid ice filled downspout and it melted the ice in a few days and kept it clear that winter That spring, I put it inside of the downspout and looped it down into the soil pipe and back out at the juncture of the soil pipe to a receptacle. If you have a receptacle at the top of the gutter this is much better, since you could snake it down the downspout into the soil pipe with no loopback Make sure it goes 4' below grade into the soil pipe or it will not work. If no soil pipe just to end of downspout that goes on your lawn. If you plan to use in gutters, you should also have heat cables on the roof, else ice dams can form which will prevent meltwater from reaching the gutters. Good luck!
