Note that the fan is advertised as 263 CFM, but the specification label on the fan notes that it is 230 CFM. It is a good little fan but I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is not as powerful as advertised. The good about the fan is that it mounts away from the vent and the only noise in the room is the slight air flow sound. Even when I am working in the attic, I barely notice the sound of the fan itself.

I work full time from home as a transcriptionist and my office is a 8 x 8 room. I needed to exhaust the heat that builds up in that room to avoid over using the house AC unit. The whole house fan does help, but it is noisy and I need relative quiet to do my job, and the WHF doesn't do enough for the office. I had hoped this little fan would the job without the WHF. This little fan does the job, but only in conjunction with the WHF.
I am going to try a more powerful fan.

This was a direct replacement of a damaged unit I had previously. This is the third unit in 20 years since installation, making lifespan approximately seven years. It is installed on a application that is intended to run every day (radon exhaust fan)

Comments about FR Series Round Inline Exhaust Fan, 6" Duct (263 CFM):

I have had two of these fans in-service in a radon system, one indoors, one outdoors. They have been 24-7-365 for TWENTY YEARS! One has developed a slight bearing squeal in very cold weather, so I orderd a spare to have on hand. If everything mechanical ran like these fans, you'd have no business selling replacments. Kudos to FanTech and Pex.

We wanted the same fan that we relied on for 20 years and it was available. The fan was easy to install. It has better suction and is quiet.

I used one of these for a bath fan upgrade. I removed the stock internal fan, connected the flex hose to this fan (now located in the attic) - now you can barely hear a fan at all - mainly the sound of air! Also, I can't fog up the bathroom if i try. 7x9 bathroom with high ceiling. Excellent purchase, and I received one day after ordering!!

I ordered this fan to replace the exact make and model in our radon mitigation systme that after 18 years was starting to make noise. I was extremely pleased to find the same model was still in production. I simply wired it up per the instructions using the same 120V line cord from the old fan and it runs whisper quiet. Can't say enough about Pex Supply, I had the fan a few days after ordering and it was double boxed to protect it. All this and the best online price too.

Although Fantech does not supply sound data on its fans, they suggest that silencers are unnecessary in most applications. The motor must be controlled with a solid state variable speed control.

No muffler, just isolate ductwork to avoid vibration noise. I used the FR series with good luck.
