Description for Field Controls EL-1

The Eliminator Foundation Vent Fan is a motorized fan designed to circulate fresh air in a home or building crawl space to eliminate cancer-causing radon gas and reduce moisture that can lead to mold formation and termite infestation. The Eliminator attaches to virtually any standard foundation vent. It is wired for automatic operation when the temperature exceeds 50oF. An optional de-humidistat activates the fan when humidity exceeds the owner-determined setting (20% - 80%) in conjunction with the built-in temperature control. The temperature control is shielded from the sun to prevent false readings that could lead to costly operation during cold weather.

Features

  • Reduces moisture content and mold potential in crawl spaces, floor joists, flooring, and other support wood
  • Circulates air in crawl space
  • Removes radon gas
  • Automatic operation
  • Temperature or humidity activated
  • Reduces potential for airborne mold infiltration into home
  • Reduces termite potential

    Note: Mounting Plate Dimensions 14-3/8" X 6-7/8"

Eliminator foundation Vent Fan

By Dick

from Virginia Beach VA

Comments about Eliminator Foundation Vent Fan:

On the recommendation of my Termite Inspector I installed three of these fans in my crawl space.

The supplied instructions were very easy to follow. I also installed an in-gararge on/off switch and the EDH-1 Dehumidistat.

The equipment appears to be top quality. The fans run extremely quite and move a good volume of air. I will set the dehumidistat to 35 % in the Spring and adjust as necessary to control the humidity.

When I first tested the fans I could smell the musty crawl space odors being pulled out from under the house. I suspect I am going to be even more pleased this summer.

Blowin' in the Wind

Comments about Eliminator Foundation Vent Fan:

I have the product installed in a low, dirt-floored crawlspace under my house in NC. The two Eliminator Foundation Vent fans help remove moisture and [...] mold growth on the floor joists. Installation was simple and it works very time the temperature goes over 50 degrees.

    Q:

What is the diameter of the fan?

      A:

The fans are installed and not near my location. If you look at the front on picture on the web site, you will see the overall diameter of the fan itself is jus slightly smaller than the 6 7/8 inch width of the mounting housing. I would assume from the picture, the fan diameter is 6 inches or very close to that figure.

      Mounting plate is 14 3/8" X 6 7/8". Fan diameter is around 4 1/2 to 5 inches.

Have had this unit running continuously for more than two years. No problems yet (though I've just jinxed it).

How big of an area will this provide ventilation for?

      A:

One unit is recommended per 1,000 square feet of crawl space. The actual total number of units depends on moisture removal requirements of the crawl space, so additional units may be required. Use the EL-1 in conjunction with the EDH-1 de-humidistat control for operation based on humidity level of the space.

    Q:

Does this fan exhaust air out of the crawlspace or does it bring outside air into the crawlspace?

      A:

It removes air and moisture from the crawspace to the outside. Mine is used primarily to control moisture in crawspace to prevent mold and mildew from forming in crawspace. I also recommend using a humidistat so the fans come on when humidity level reaches a certain threshold.

      A:

It does both. As the fan is pushing air "out" of the crawlspace it is
drawing air "into" the crawlspace from the other passive vents on the
      opposite side of the crawlspace.

      A:

If the question is: Can you put three of these foundation vent fans on one
humidistat the answer is yes. They are very low draw. However, I might also
mention that I personally did not like using the humidistat switch as the switch
is very slow to respond and wasn't that accurate.

I now use timers on a series of foundation vent fans where the fans on the West
facing side of the house go on in the AM and the East facing side of the house
go on in the afternoon. The fans run daily to make sure all the wood flooring
has excellent air circulation on the underside and to assure that moisture is
kept at a bare minimum under the house.
