Description for Field Controls SWG-6s

Gas and oil heating appliances generate heat through the combustion of fuel. The heat is transferred through the heat exchanger and distributed to the conditioned space. The products of combustion, however, must be vented safely out of the structure. In a conventional chimney, venting is achieved by the natural lifting action of the hot combustion gas. New, efficient systems absorb more of the heat in the heat exchanger and produce lower temperature vent gas. Lower temperature gas does not rise as quickly or as reliably as in older, less efficient systems. Power venting or sidewall venting is more economical and safer than chimney venting. A power venter uses a motorized blower to vent the products of combustion. A power venter is interlocked with the appliance to ensure that proper draft is achieved before the appliance burner is activated.

Features

  • Patented SWG or ComboVent Power Venters are ETL and cETL listed for all LP gas, natural gas, or oil-fired heating equipment. The SWG or ComboVent combines the motor, blower, and vent hood in one complete, easy to install unit. The SWG mounts on the outside of the building and pulls the combustion gases from the appliance through the outside wall utilizing 100% negative pressure. Benefits of the SWG or ComboVent Power Venter include:
  • 100% negative pressure in the vent pipe for maximum safety.
  • Standard galvanized pipe can be used instead of expensive stainless steel.
  • No need to seal vent pipe joints, saving time and money.
  • Significantly longer vent lengths than positive pressure, direct vent systems.
  • The SWG or ComboVent is recommended by major heating appliance manufacturers.
  • The SWG or ComboVent must be sized to match the appliance or appliances' input firing rate. Most firing rates are published in the manufacturer's installation manual. The SWG and ComboVent must be installed with a CK Control Kit to ensure proper listing and safe, efficient venting.

Comments about SWG-4HDs, 4" Stainless Steel Power Venter (170,000 BTU):

Seemingly a higher quality piece versus the original galvanized unit it replaces. Logistically prepare to take up a larger space as the facial foot print is considerably larger.

Comments about SWG-4HDs, 4" Stainless Steel Power Venter (170,000 BTU):

We live on the beach! Had the 1st 1 installed by the oil burner co. after we went chimneyless in 05. It lasted that long in salt air. The only problem we have had is with the furnace, last 4+ yrs. Techs kept telling me it was the SWG.(not) g.m. came down, acknowledged problem with furnace, new part on order. What has happened to integrity in the work place. He was some hot under the collar. Anyway talked to F.C. they backed what I thought all along. Great guys to do business with.

Comments about 5" Stainless Steel Power Venter (290,000 BTU):

We bought this to replace a power venter that was rusting out and loud and out of balance. When we found this stainless steel power venter we were very interested. The cost was not a lot more than a galvanized one. Product was delivered on time. It was easy to install replacing like for like. It runs so quiet. We are expecting many more years of use from this one than the old galvanized one.

Comments about SWG-4HDs, 4" Stainless Steel Power Venter (170,000 BTU):

My orignal power vent from field control lasted 20 years.
Followed the direction from my boiler guy. Keep a window cracked in the basement to keep basement air flowing versus suction to rust out the vent. Died on a Wednesday and had the new unit at my door Friday morning. They answered my questions and were extremley friendly. I removed the old galvinized unit and replaced with the stainless unit (I recommend) under 40 minutes. Super easy!!!

  • 5" Stainless Steel Power Venter (290,000 BTU)

    Q:

How do we turn this unit on and off? is it somehow connected to HWH tank, so that when the burning starts triggers this unit to start working?
Asked on 10/12/2015 by lorenc from United States

      A:

Typically, this is connected to a control box, sold separately. When there is a call for heat, for the burner to run, the control box triggers the power Venter to run. As soon as the control establishes the Venter is running, the burner(also connected to the control) is triggered to start.

I installed it a few years ago but I believe you just screw the oversized square piece into the outside wall. Attaches with 4 screws. Screw holes are visible in picture. There is no bracket.

This vent unit attaches through the wall. There is a nail / screw hole
in each corner of the square metal flange to attach it to the outside
      wall.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Yes. There is another panel for the inside of the house, where you
basically sandwich the venter and the inside bracket together. There will
be a hollow space around the pipe going through the wall. Directions are
easy to follow and as a home DIY'r, I did this replacement in less than an
hour. Be sure to put a few drops of oil in the "oil here" spots under the
outside cover before you finalize the install, and to oil it annually to
ensure proper working order. Good luck!

      A:

The bracket is attached to the power venter. It is shown in the picture as the square stainless steel plate. It also comes with a thin plate to put on the other side of the wall once installed. You mount it to the wall using the 4 holes already punched into the steel plate
