So Far I have made 3 purchases from PEX Supply and the general experince has been positive. The Line Sets I've purchased worked well no problem with Flares and the sets are good quality. The problem is with packaging several have arrived with the plastic end caps missing and the box ends opened. The product slides around in the box too much causing damage from inside with some insulation damage occurring. The plastic end caps on all sets recieved were very loose with some missing. Evacuaion is necessary anyway however the plastic end caps should keep the line sets soemwhat contimnation free.

I used this product for a Fujitsu mini-split system installation. The product is of low quality.

    - The flares had defects. All flare ends needed to be re-flared. This is not a big problem as long as you have a flaring tool. It may even be recommended for R410a systems.

    - I think the bigger problem is the insulation. The products I received all had cracks, tears, and defects on the insulation throughout the lineset. I ended up adding another layer of insulation on top of the existing one. The final cost to me was 30% more than what I paid for the original set.

Was easy to install through a couple of 2" holes and run through my attic. Insulation did snag and created small cuts in the surface of the insulation, so support the tubes on each side of your entrance hole(s)as you pull them through.

Ordering was easy, shipping was good, product wasn't as advertised. The gas line wasn't flared on one side, and poorly flared on the other. We had to cut both ends and flare it with a flare kit. Wasn't too thrilled with the quality control with this order.

Comments about 3/8" LL x 5/8" SL x 50 ft Refrigerant Line Set for Mini-Split, Flared:

I have been installing Refrigeration and A/C equipment for 40 years. I normally make my line sets from 164' rolls of pre-insulated tubing. I was out of 5/8" and needed a 50' set. I thought I would try one from Supply House because they generally sell quality items. In this case it was a big mistake. The line set is absolute junk. I started to use it and ended up putting the job on hold until I can get my usual material. I can live with cutting off the terrible flares to do them correctly, but not with the cheap junk insulation. Try pulling it through a hole and it tears all up. Look at it crossways and it tears. Don't buy this stuff. I am stuck with 2 coils (3/8 and 5/8) that I will try to use for water line someplace.

If the Mitsubishi has flare fittings of 1/4 supply and 3/8 return it will
        work just fine.
My older mini splits and my new Sanyo mini splits also use the same line
        set.

How do i take the air out of the line?
Asked on 4/11/2012 by Beekmansup from Hazleton, PA

      • VERIFIED BUYER

        A:

You will need a vacuum pump with at least one hose that connects the pump to the service port on the mini-split. I would draw the system down for at least half an hour before releasing the vacuum, then releasing a small amount of refrigerant into the system and checking for leaks using a soapy bubble solution at each of the flared fittings.
The preferable method is to use the vacuum pump and a set of gauges so you can measure the degree of vacuum, then lock down the gauge set closed and wait to see if any vacuum bleeds off. That will determine whether you have any leaks in your flared connections between the indoor wall unit and outdoor condenser/compressor.

        A:

No its not. You need a line set of 3/8 inch for the gas and 1/4 inch for liquid. Your unit should have been supplied with a line set. Look for a line set pre-flared or you will need to rent or borrow a flare tool.

        A:

The tubing is made out of level-wound copper. The minimum bend radius is not a listed spec. We would estimate that it would be about 7 times the outside diameter of the copper.

Why not use bulk coil copper tubing I wholesale to Dealers and contractors, ONLY, has a very high PSI rating, all sizes the wall thickness is 0.30. I sell a lot of it to Boat shops for hydraulic steering and I am sure this application has no were near the PSI as that, ¼” is like 1800 PSI 3/8” 2700PSIit comes in 25’ & 50’ coils and maybe a whole lot cheaper, I don’t have a silver solder supplier.

Line-sets do not include refrigerant. Refrigerant will not flow through them until both ends are fully hooked up. The outdoor unit of the mini-split system will hold all the refrigerant until the system begins to operate.

The line sets can be connected to make a longer run. We do not carry the couplings to connect line sets together. The line sets already come insulated and with flared ends. We do sell pipe insulation and it can be found here: http://www.pexsupply.com/Pipe-Insulation-12071000

These lines are made to be cut and flared...all installers carry the tools to do so. A lot of runs actually need to be shortened a bit...runs over around 75 feet arent recommended.
