Grundfos 15-29 SU

By jeffwil89

Comments about UP15-29SU Circulator Pump, 1/12 HP, 115V w/ NPT Union Connection:

As other have noted, this replaces the Grundfos 15-18 SU and is an exact fit. Installation was simple and took, after preparation, less than 5 minutes to actually screw on. Runs with a slightly higher-pitched motor noise than the 15-18 but I would describe it as a quiet motor. My 15-18 lasted 22 years and I expect this one to last as long. Very satisfied with the unit and with Supply House, who shipped it promptly.

Pump work fine, but...

By Don A

Comments about UP15-29SU Circulator Pump, 1/12 HP, 115V w/ NPT Union Connection:

I replaced an elderly dead Grundfos unit and new unit fit and worked. The issue have is the electrical connection. Grundfos changed the connection method from wire nuts to a lever pinch style. The pinch on the wire is strong, but the lever to open it is weak and break off which leaves you looking for a way to open the connection - very aggravating. Also be aware there are two types of Grundfos isolation valves if you must replace one as I did – a compression fitting #519851 and a threaded female fitting #519852.

  • UP15-29SU Circulator Pump, 1/12 HP, 115V w/ NPT Union Connection

    Q:

Can this pump be used with a passive hot water recirculating system?

      A:

The simple answer is YES. I have a standard house setup, ie; water heater,
      with a supplemental solar system.

      A:

Yes it would work depending on the flow of gallons per minute you require.
It might also depend if you have a closed or open system and the height of
the panels. I use it with a hot water heater and pex pipe in basement
walls. I got the stainless steel because the cast iron pumps I had started
      rusting.

      A:

That would be the opposite of "passive" however if you wish to have both a
pump and the option of a passive system you could simply bypass the pump
using valves allowing you to re-route the flow. I don't know what the
resistance of the pump is when it isn't running.

    Q:

does my UP15-29SU pump have a check valve built into it?
    Asked on 2/16/2015 by Pat

    1 answer

    • VERIFIED BUYER

The pump does not have a built in check valve. You will need to place a check valve in line with the pump just up stream.

    Q:

    The pump I have know is Type UP 15-18SU, 115V 1PH 60Hz, P/N 59896127, PC 0151. Will the UP15-29SU be the same.

      A:

According to the manufacturer, these pumps are different. The UP15-18SU is obsolete and its replacement is the UP15-29SU. Dimensionally they will fit in the same piping arrangement.

yeah the UP15-29SU will work, should be 10 microfarad capacitor with flows to 12 gpm
      VOLTAGE: 115V
make sure you mount it the right way.

After speaking with tech support at Grundfos, the 15-29 is an exact
replacement to the 15-18 all the way down to the same flange size. If

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Yes these pumps are face-to-face replacements. However I have a problem. I ordered new valve/unions to replace the old ones which were badly corroded and non-functional for years. The new valve/unions were OK on the pump end but the flare fitting end did not match the old. The diameters appear the same but the threads/inch do not match. The new valves P/N is 59896775. A problem for me because the stupid plumber did not leave sufficient pipe protruding from the wall for me to cut and put the new flare nut and ferrule on. This may not apply to your situation-- good luck.
