I put a larger tub into the master bathroom and the hot water heater could no longer meet the demand for hot water. Instead of replacing the hot water heater I added the mixing valve, then turned the heater up full. The heater now almost always has enough hot water to meet my needs. Also, the temperature out of the hot water heater no longer fluctuates with its cycle. I always get the same temp water. This really helps in the kitchen while washing dishes.

I no longer have to worry about being scalded from any faucet in the house. This mising valve should be part of every hot water heater installation.

The only down side is that there is a slight reduction in flow. This is only noticeable when using a high flow faucet. No problem with showers or normal tub filling faucets.

I recently installed a new 50 gallon gas hot water heater, to replace the old 50 gallon tank. Naturally, I ended up with the same two problems I had before. Not enough hot water for everyone to shower or to fill a large soaking tub, and constantly adjusting the water temperature in the shower as the hot water diminished. The DirectConnect Mixing Valve fixed BOTH my problems, which met all my expectations.

The installation was easy enough, just shut off the water heater, turn off the water to the heater, and then drain a few gallons of water from the heater. Then I removed the inlet and outlet lines so I could install the mixing valve. I also had to disconnect the exhaust flue from the heater because you need the space to turn (screw in) the mixing valve. The instructions didn't mention it, but I used Teflon tape on all the connections. After that, I reinstalled the connection lines and the flue. It was as simple as that. There are a couple of things to watch out for. When you connect the crossover line, make sure the flared ends fit exactly over the connections and are not even slightly crooked or off center before tightening them down or you will have a leak like I first did. Also, as you tighten ANY of the connections, you need to use another wrench to hold things in place or the tightening pressure will move other parts around which could cause you problems.

Once I tested for leaks and found none, I relit the hot water heater with the original setting, and set the mixing valve on its max setting, so it would not mix any cold water with the hot water. Once the water was at its normal temperature, I checked the temperature at a faucet and recorded it, since I wanted the same temperature at the faucet when I was done. I then cranked the hot water heater up to the VERY HOT setting. Once the water was at the new VERY HOT temperature, I adjusted the mixing valve down so it would mix cold water with the very hot water coming out of the heater. I adjusted it a few times until the hot water coming out at the faucet measured the same temperature as I originally had.

Now we have plenty of hot water and no more constant adjusting of the water temperature while taking a shower. If you have the same complaints that I had and don't want to spend a fortune on a larger hot water heater (or don't have the space for a larger one), try this solution. I was completely satisfied.

This product delivered what it promised, being easy to install, and it works! I have hot water heaters on a boat which are heated by the boat's engines, so the water gets scalding hot (180 deg F - engine temp). Now that I installed these mixing valves, I don't need to worry about water that temperature coming out of the faucets!!

Be sure all the fittings are tight, including the plugs installed at the factory!
