Great for gas garage heaters

Comments about 6" Round Motorized Fresh Air Damper (DH90):

I installed Mr Heater garage heaters in my workshop and garage. The Honeywell EARD6 allows a 6" duct to the outside air to be opened up only when the heater is actually running. This provides fresh outside air for proper combustion of the heater. The heater thermostat provides 24vac to the coil of a RAC24 relay which provides 24vac from a seperate transformer to operate the air damper. Works great.

Installed the damper with a VisionPro IAQ 9000 thermostat. Works very well on a whole house ventilation mode. The idea was to use some extra air through the AC system instead of opening the windows (and getting the really hot summer air). Installed a 12" filter along to keep the damper clean. Highly recommend it.

I am impressed with the quality of this damper. It is a heavy gauge steel, the motor is silent and the damper moves free and seals tight against the foam seat. It is easily adjustable and a breeze to wire. I would recommend this product to anyone. [...]

Great product but installation instructions did NOT include standard thermostats, furnaces and air conditioners. Took a lot of trial and error to get the damper to work! Honeywell should include installation instructions for conventional furnaces and air conditioners.

I used this to get outside make-up air into my old house furnace room, to reduce amount of treated air from the house going through the furnace and up the chimney. Works great. Seals pretty well when closed to keep cold air out when furnace is off. Powered it directly from the house thermostat; only draws about 1/4 amp, so no problem there.

                              Yes.
If it is a 120 volt, spring return actuator then yes. Simply wire it like you would a light fixture.
If it is a 24 volt, spring return actuator then you can still do it, but you'll need a 24 volt transformer.
If it is modulating (3-wire) you'll have to do a bit of fancy wiring but it would still be do-able.

By "light switch" if you mean a 110 vac switch, the answer is no. The unit does not run on 110 vac directly. You need to use a step down transformer. If you wire the primary side of the transformer to the "light switch", the secondary side which is wired to the damper will open / close to follow the "light switch".

You should not need to add a transformer. This damper operates on the nominal 24 volts that is the same as most thermostats. Your Furnace/AC unit should already have a transformer to supply 24 volts to the thermostat(s). You obtain the electrical feed for the damper from the 24 volt

Is there a difference in the motor between the 8 inch round motorized fresh air damper, and the 5 in round motorized damper? I have a motor that has gone out my damper, and am just really interested in a replacement motor. My current brand is not a honeywell, but it sounds like the mechanics are the same- motorized open, spring return for closed.

I do not have a 5" damper, but I can tell you that Damper Actuator (damper motor assembly) is the same on both the 6" and 8" Honeywell units.
My guess is that they are the same (companies would rather produce one piece versus many). Hope this helps.
