Our pre-existing 4" Honeywell whole house filter, was upgraded to this Electronic version in less than 1 hour. [...]once delivered installation was quite easy. Removal of 4 knockouts, similar to electrical box knockouts from the existing F300 air cleaner frame are required to accomodate the power supply, and is the trickiest part if space on the sides of the filter is limited. My existing air filter was sandwiched between the furnace and the cold air return, with zero clearance on the sides and only the 7" width of its top exposed for access. Once the knockouts were removed however it was a simple process of removing the filter elements from the unit received and placing them in the prepared housing, mounting the power supply on it's top, and double checking the installation manual one more time prior to powering up. There was one item not anticipated, and that was a plastic "key" which is found on the bottom of the cabinet. This item insures the electronic filter elements are positioned in the correct manner for the direction of air flow. The factory default has air flow left to right, mine was reversed, so transferring this "key" from the new housing to the existing cabinet, required placement in an adjacent set of mounting holes, which where found on the floor pan of the old cabinet. Plugging in and switching on the power switch made me aware of another feature of this unit. There is an air flow sensor switch in the filter, and unless there is air flow power will not come on. As soon as the blower motor turned on the unit powered up and everything began working as anticipated. This has been a welcome upgrade to our existing Honeywell whole house filter, and with simple tools, a job that most DIY homeowners could undertake, even though the installation manual warns that this job requires a trained technician! Maybe at age 68 there's a new career waiting for me...LOL.

Honeywell-The best electronic air cleaner

By Jumpin Jack Flash

Comments about Electronic Air Cleaner, 16x25:

This is our second one of these air cleaners. The first one was necessary to accommodate our sons asthma, which it did quite well. We had it for 20+ years, had it rebuilt once, then ran it till it wore out, literally. We had a choice of other filters, but opted again, of course, for a Honeywell. The new one is dimensionally exact to the old, so it is a direct replacement fit, no need to alter the plenum. They've added an additional set of two washable 'post filters' in addition to the two washable, aluminum mesh 'pre filters' to improve the overall performance, which I feel is a great idea. It's recommended that the entire contents of the unit be cleaned monthly which is not a big chore. When the electronic baffle section gets too dirty to be cleaned by you, you can take it to your heating contractor to have it done chemically. The only thing that you may be aware of that it's running is a slight ozone odor in the air from the ionizing process, but for us, it's not a problem. However, I've been told that it may interfere with some allergies. It's relatively inexpensive to operate. We've noticed how much cleaner the air feels in the house. We look forward to many years of reliable service from this one, too!

Clean Air Investment

Comments about Electronic Air Cleaner, 16x20:

We moved in with my Mother-In-Law. Her house is about 30 years old and had most of the original dust and dirt. When the heat or air conditioning ran you could watch the dust motes in movement. Now that we have the electronic air filter, there is very little to see. The more the system runs, the more dust is stirred up, the cleaner things get! I like it.

Comments about Electronic Air Cleaner, 20x25:

My wife has allergies and when she starts to sneeze again, I know it's time to clean the filters.
These are the only way to really filter air, but you have to be willing to clean the filters about every 45-60 days.
Our old unit burned up after 10 years. The new one went in easily , but I was meticulous about sealing gaps, so it took 2-3 hours. It plugs in, so no electrical in my case
I run my fan 7x24, so the air is always being filtered and the house does not get still between the cooling or heating cycles.

After Market installation on my 16 inch flex return line. Mounted flat sheet metal on both sides and cut a sixteen inch hole in both sides and mounted two 8 inch duct take offs together on each side to get my 16 inches on both sides. Duct Mastic the heck out of it on both sides. Works Great! Spliced my return line about four feet from furnace in attic, which made it accessable to get at to clean.

First filter is the induction filter for the duct work itself ( located in a ceiling or wall ), 2nd is the first filter located in the unit, 3rd are the cells itself locted in the unit and 4th is the post filter located in the unit.   Hence the air drawn in passes through 2 filters then the cells and the last filter in the unit.  The unit I have works great in dusty Las Vegas.

My unit is a 20 x 25 filter. It is just under 6.75 inches wide(when unit
is standing with power supply on top). This 6.75 inches includes the
prefilters, filter grids and the post filters. You can see that the power
supply extends off the top by about 3 inches. However, what you can not
see, and may be of significance is that the blue door's catch at the bottom
of the filter housing, extends below the filter frame by just under 0.75
inches. Therefore, overall dimensions are: 23 1/8 high (excluding the 3/4
extension at the bottom of the door) X 26 1/4 deep (including door handle
and test button) and 6.75 inches wide. Note: you should plug this device
into a surge protector. God bless.

Yes, this unit works reasonably well. I chose it over using
high-efficiency, 3M Allergan filters because the 3M filters raised the head
pressure on my air handler because they were so dense. However, they worked
quite well. This unit works reasonably well: with the filters I never had
to dust, with this system, I dust monthly. Before either, it was a weekly
      task.
If you do purchase, be careful cleaning it and re-installing the cells-it
can be finicky in that regard.
In my research, this was the largest residential unit I found that wouldn't
      break the bank.

I have had this filter in my house for about 20 years. I run my furnace fan 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It does have a pre and post filter. The main cells need to be washed at least once a year. You will be surprised on how much dirt and micro particles will be in the water after you wash the cells. You will always have dust on your surfaces, but the dust will be greatly reduced especially if the fans runs all the time and if you change or clean the cold air return filter monthly.
