Honeywell TrueSTEAM direct-injection humidifiers provide the high performance and efficiency of steam humidification with easier maintenance than traditional humidifiers. The patented Condensate Collect Dome and beveled nozzle keep water in the tank, delivering only true steam into your duct?s airflow. TrueSTEAM provides your home with high-capacity true humidity, while using up to 70% less water than flow-through humidifiers. It automatically fills with water and drains when needed, so you don?t have to remember to do it. On top of that, TrueSTEAM actually controls your homes HVAC equipment for maintaining desirable humidity levels in your home year-round. Wiring to your HVAC equipment allows TrueSTEAM to supply humidity when you need it by turning on your equipment automatically. TrueSTEAM has the built-in intelligence to shut down when humidity is not needed for an extended period. After 48 hours of inactivity, TrueSTEAM will drain its tank and remain empty until it is needed again. This prevents water from stagnating within the tank. Maintenance is also made simple with the TrueSTEAM?just remove the water tank for cleaning. TrueSTEAM's internal system diagnostics monitor system operation and maintenance schedules as well as system faults. The LED light panel on the TrueSTEAM lets you know that the humidifier is operating correctly, when maintenance is needed, and when it is safe to remove the tank for cleaning. The push buttons allow the tank to be drained for cleaning, and quickly return to operation when the tank is reattached to the humidifier.

Here's the deal. This product is basically a bucket with a huge electrode in the middle of it. The system fills the bucket with water and turns on the electrode. This creates steam which is pumped into the air ducts. Other humidifiers work by passing air over a water soaked filter. The idea of not having to deal with a nasty filter but rather having steam injected into the air flow is amazing. Because this unit basically boils the water, it leaves behind all of the calcium and lime in the tank. It does try to flush the tank every so often to get rid of it but as we all know, hard water builds up on everything. Unless you have VERY soft water the system will eventually need a cleaning. When you follow the instructions you have do due a hard water test and then buy a filter product. The product comes with a hard water test kit that you use to tell how hard your water is. There are 3 levels and at each level Honeywell recommends a product to reduce the water hardness. I am telling you, you need a method to get rid of the calcium or lime in your water or this product will not work. As with everything, people try to do it as cheaply as possible and not buy a filter. Then the system doesn't work, even though Honeywell told you want you need and people complain that this is junk. Sure it sucks to have to buy another item but you'll need one for other products as well, unless you like chipping away the build up every so often. The part number you need is Honeywell 50045947-001. If you have really bad water pressure get 50045947-002 which comes with a pump. 50045947-001 runs about $178.With that said, Honeywell advertises this as being able to be installed in 5 minutes. That is only true if you have: 1. a drain nearby, a dedicated 15 AMP circuit (this product draws 12 amps), and a water source. You also need spot on your HVAC outflow duct large enough to mount this on. I didn't have a dedicated 15 AMP line in so I put one in - easy enough but if you aren't good with electrical you'll have to hire someone to put a line in. This comes with a saddle value which allows you to tap onto an existing water pipe without having to call a plumber. It worked great. You can use this with any humidistat or thermostat that has a humidity control. I have the Honeywell Prestige thermostat and wanted to connect this to the system wirelessly. To do that I had to buy an additional Honeywell wireless adapter. The wireless adapter made it easy to wire up. Connect A to A, B to B, C to C, D to D and you're done. The humidifier has a service light that blinks to tell you what's wrong. If you have the prestige thermostat the thermostat will tell you what is wrong. These two products work awesome together. All in all my complete install was about $800-$900 (including reverse osmosis filter). Is that a lot of money? I guess, but I like the best. The reverse osmosis filter took 5 minutes to install. Would have been shorter but I had to mount it to concrete. So if you want to be successful make sure you buy the Honeywell reverse osmosis system or you'll be sorry. Installers, quit selling this to people without also selling the reverse osmosis system.

When the product worked, it did its job quietly. However, each year it was something else. Water sensor goes bad. Fill valve goes bad. Cleaning is really difficult, even with fairly clean water (I have city water).Sorry, can't recommend. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Comments about TrueSTEAM 6-gallon with HumidiPRO Digital Humidity Control:
I had an earlier version of one of these installed less than 5 years ago and it was nothing but trouble. Parts failed, case cracked, and it never did work as advertised. I have two places in this house to record humidity, and both places never did show any increase in humidity, sometime as low as 10 percent. Now the company that installed tells me to disconnect and throw out. A very lousy product that did not live up to it's hype.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

These humidifiers are bad. They leak, break down, need a lot of maintenance and replacement parts. Look into other brands that can do a better job. I have 4 in my house and they are a thorn in my side.Check other reviews and they are all bad.
Leaks like a sieve
from Magnolia, OH
I replaced the whole house humidifier that I had in a hallway with this one hoping to get good humidity without having to fill it all the time. It does humidify but I lose 2 quarts of water a day to it leaking. I put clamps on every hose I could get to as well as the ones they give you clamps for and it still leaks. My electric bill went up also because the fan has to be on to distribute the moisture. I would not recommend this unit at all. I just bought another one to put in the hallway and will throw this one away.

I think that Honeywell designed this unit to satisfy any houmowner's requirements. Very smard machine!About PexSupply.comI'm very gled that I celected this Co. For that I have a strong rearon. In January of 2010 I got a unit with 5-Year Lim. Warranty from Honeywell. In January 2014 the heating coil failed I called Honeywell and was told contact the distributer that I did. In 24 hours PexSypply shipped me a new unit,(during snow storm) This Company deserves high marks for outstanding service.
Did not last the length of its warrantee

A few problems with this device, it simply gets too hot for itself and cooks itself. It burns a TON of watts as well.Yes it puts humidiy in the air without having to run the burners in the furnace, but at a price.I also heard from my HVAC installers that that have seen a lot of duct damage from these devices.

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon with HumidiPRO Digital Humidity Control:
The steam humidifier was overall easy to install. Took the better part of a day as I had to run an electric line for the unit to plug into, and I chose to tee off the waterline instead of using the saddle valve. I also opted to connect and control directly to my Ecobee instead of the included humidistat. Overall the product works great and produces enough moisture for my 2,700 sf house with the ecobee frost control setting. House was about 20% before install and brought up to 35% in 24 hours. Took a week to stabilize as my house was very dry. Very quiet operation. Directions are a bit poor, but being technical I was able to work through the install.
UNRELIABLE - Tank & Level Sensor Failure
By TrueSteam Owner
PexSupply Seems to be a good company, this review does not reflect upon their reputation.Installation Difficulty: Moderate skills required, wiring.Function: OK when workingReliability: Poor; Level sensor replaced twice, tank once, both parts because of cracking. Cracked tank leaks hot water. Search comments on web HVAC forums for more.Honeywell warranty support: Honoured only if you paid a contractor to install it and to get your replacement parts for you. Service calls not covered.Recommendation: Choose a different unit. Thanks to PexSupply for the opportunity to provide feedback.

Comments about TrueSTEAM 6-gallon humidifier w/ H8908 manual humidistat:
After reading some older Honeywell recomendations I chose the 6 gallon unit. Now after reading the new new Honeywell sizing instructions I see that I should have gotten larger model. Prospective buyers should check this closly.
