I installed this in 4 hrs with no HVAC experience at all. My house was 27% humidity when I installed, 45% 2 days later. The VisionPro is the only way to go for thermostats. Only uses 3 wires so that saved me the hassle of running additional wires.

Everything works great, I force the fan on when there is a call for humidity. I don't use frost protection (I'd rather have humidity and the condesation goes away by 10am). Before TrueSteam we had temp set at 70, now it's at 68 and we are all comfortable.

Great unit, spend the xtra money and go for it.

pexsupply hands down the best price especially if you have a coupon!

I have a heat pump with electric back up, so a steam humidifier seemed like the best solution. I purchased the 9 gallon TrueSteam with the IAQ controller in Set 2009 from PexSupply. The IAQ controller is excellent for any type of heating and cooling requirements with any type of system. I highly recommend it. The humidifier worked fine for the first winter. I live in an area with mild winters, so it only ran about 4 months at the most, and not very frequently. When I turned it on Dec 2010, it reported back that the temperature sensor failed. Correspondence with Honeywell indicated the sensor could not be replaced separately. I needed a whole new humidifier. And, since the unit was out of warranty, it would be an out-of-pocket expense. Now the happy ending. [...]The replacement is working well, but let's see what next winter brings. [...] When I bought the unit Pex had one of the lowest prices. [...]

PexSupply is awesome

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

I purchased this model in Jan of 2011. In Jan of 2014 it started having issues and reported some errors. Not knowing what to do, I called Honeywell. As other have mentioned, they have less than perfect support. I then called PexSupply for guidance. They walked me through the troubleshooting steps and once we foudn that the part was not user replaceable, they forwarded me to customer services where I was offered a replacement. The support process was flawless. I don't have a need to buy many plumbing or heating parts but I do know that when the time comes where I will make the purchase.

The unit itself works great with the IAQ. It requires cleaning every so often during colder months but the process isn't difficult.

Does the job very well and is very smart.
I installed the unit without a "Pro Installer". With that said, don't bother calling tech support for assistance. They will not help with even a fundamental question. Don't get me wrong. It does take some logic to install. Mechanical and electrical knowhow a must.

Comments about TrueSTEAM 6-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

when it was working we liked it quite a bite.
we enjoyed the Vision Pro IAQ thermostat as well.

the problem is, its not out of warantee, and all of the gaskets have been reduced to powder, the resevoir is discolored from the heat from grey to brown The "overdlow sensor" needs to be replaced, the plasic that encased all the sensors seems to not be able to handle the head that this thing creates. and more over, our HVAC guys have said they see a lot of damage to ductwork where this steam is hitting.

Great upgrade to my heatpump/electric furnace system. The bare bones electric set up made for extremely low humidity levels all winter. This system eliminated that problem and the new thermostat/controller is a real plus.

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

Excellent instructions
Very simple install
VisionPro IAQ makes it very simple and effective.

The only downside is you are using electric rather than gas to heat the water.

So you are adding heat to space being humidified, but you are paying a bit more for that heat than you would if the humidifier was gas powered.

Comments about TrueSTEAM 9-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

This humidifier works great. The install wasn't to bad, nothing difficult with it, only issue I did have was clarifing were to wire the outdoor temperature probe (which is included with the humidifier but not mentioned), instructions don't mention it at all. Also, if you want the humidifier to run during your cooling cycle, you will have to purchase a Discharge Air Temperature Sensor (DATS). Besides that, it pumps our plenty of moisture, definitely noticable in the house within a day. Its worth the money.

Works just fine

By JCP

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

I believe that the TrueSTEAM is working just fine. Being a DIY, it took a couple days for me to put it in. Having a 3500+SQ FT home it seems to run all time to maintain 35% humidity. I don't think it works well up stairs and will consider getting another one for the attic furnance. There seems to be a trick with getting the VisionPro thermostatic to work with the TrueSTEAM. In the manual it says to set option 0374 to 1, but there is no option 0374. The default setting for option 0372 doesn't work and you have to set it to something else. After doing that, option 0374 appears and the TrueSTEAM started to work.

Great product so far

Comments about TrueSTEAM 12-gallon humidifier w/ VisionPro IAQ Control:

The product has been working great as advertised. Installation was a bit expensive due to the product needing it's own electrical circuit installed and water line ran. AC/heating guy is needed to wire the unit to the furnace. [...] The humidity is staying around 40% (as set) consistently. Only problem is that I set the unit (by thermostat) to run independent of the furnace and fan which caused leaking out of the duct work and onto the ceiling sheet rock. I now have it set to kick the fan on when humidity is needed and it works great without any problems. I have a 2100 square ft. home and live in a very dry area. I've only been using it for a week but so far, so good. The thermostat (VisionPro IAQ) is very nice with lots of different settings and easy to use functions.

    Q:

Can this be used on a down flow system?
    Asked on 4/9/2014 by Danny

      A:

If you mean could this be used on the intake, or return side, where the fresh air comes into the burner, yes, it can. However, especially if you are using a gas furnace, the efficiency will be greatly reduced. The nice part of this system is that you can mount the tank separate from the duct you want to introduce the humidity onto. It comes with a flexible hose, so you only have to cut a small hole into the duct, unlike a passive humidifier that requires a much larger one.
I think you will be much happier with the results if you introduce the stream after the burner so the moisture is not burnt off before it gets into the system.

I am not 100% sure about this one. You would have to install it to the
return air, which means the steamy air will pass over your furnace/air
handler. If you look up the manual for it, it should tell you if it is
approved for a return air install or not. I am a furnace technician and I
have not run into this situation as of yet.

The manual makes no reference to air direction, upflow or downflow. It states the nozzle must be in the supply duct , 4 inches from sides of duct and 24in straight duct downstream of the nozzle.

The water by me is hard so I use softened water and a small inline water filter available from a home store and the humidifier stays very clean. It uses an electric heat element so it should heat the water regardless of water quality. You will need to clean out the residue more often with poor water..

      A:

No, but if you don't frequent cleaning will be required.  You can try the system without a filter and see how soon the deposits develop.  If you are having to clean out your tank every month or two it might be worth investing in an RO unit.

      A:

I guess it depends on your definition of "good water?" I am on well water, and while the water is "good," there is not a lot of iron taste, it does have a lot of minerals. I installed the in-line filter on mine, and it works, but I get mineral build-up (calcium I believe) on the heating coils, and lot of build-up in the reservoir. If I don't clean it out periodically, once or twice a winter, it will clog up the water line and actually shut the humidifier down. Unfortunately, I only notice it when the humidity drops, I go downstairs to check it and the needs cleaning light is on. It takes maybe 10 minutes to clean the reservoir, mainly because you have to dump the hot water, then scrape out the minerals and put it back together. At the end of winter, I turn it off, fill it with vinegar and let it soak for several days to loosen the build-up on the heating coil, and then get that stuff off with a brush.
I don't believe you need perfect water to run the humidifier, but it will require more maintenance if you don't.

If your using well water or very hard water in general Id say that you
should just clean it more often. I'd also program it to flush itself on a
      more regular basis also.

The steam going into the vent will be clean.   But,   calcium will build in tbe heating tank.   It will have to be cleaned once or twice a season.   The pre filter you use will catch the rest.   So good water guality is nice but not necessary.

Not if you use an RO filter. But they are more expensive, both in equipment and in water (because they throw off a lot of discharge water).

Not if you use the proper filters. It comes with a test kit and you can

That depends of ducting lay out and geometry . That would be my last choice
because of interference and all mechanical devices moist air has to flow
through. There is a higher risk of contact condensation.
If there is a quite long straight run of ducting before air get into the
blower( 20 time ducting diameter ) that might be possible. But again , that
      would be my last choice.

No not really. Humidifying colder air is less efficient but because the Truesteam unit is already vapor this should not be a problem. If the connection is far from the furnace I might be concerned with condensation if the return air is very cold.
