Pex Supply was great, I give the company a 5+ rating, lowest prices out there, fast ship. The one star is for the piece of junk junk junk component . As everyone will find out, this part doesn't last very long for what they cost, never mind the labor for those who have to have a professional come out, trouble shoot and change it. Seniors need to put that $500 towards oil in the tank. Hopefully a replacement clone will become available by the time I need to cycle these parts out again in a year or two!

My Bottom Line Is Here!
Honeywell needs to redesign this part a third time to last at least a minimum of 5 years. I am forced to buy this part because of no known replacement .

Replace old damper motor. Receive it right a way. Easy to replace the old motor. If there were no plastic gears on the motor it would never give out

Comments about Replacement Motor for ARD, EARD, & ZD Dampers:

This motor is the exact replacement for my heating system. It took less than 10 minutes to replace the old motor. Supply House had exactly what I needed. the sight was easy to navigate to find the product. Placing the order was painless. I was provided with updates via email as the order was processed and shipped and a tracking number was available to check on the progress. I could ask for better service.

Not my favorite item to purchase but when you need one, you need one. Have two zones on my ac so when the first actuator needed replacing (after about 6 years)I figure the other will go shortly, so I ordered two. Plastic gears is probably why they only last six years but that's all that's available these days. So what are you going to do. Supply house has the supply and the best price that I found. It's a shame they don't make things like the used to....... to last.....

Not great, but ok

Comments about Replacement Motor for ARD, EARD, & ZD Dampers:

Overall build quality is great, but it has a major design flaw: plastic gears. Why is that important? The gears on my previous motor were ruined after less than a year of use. I really question the reasons why such an (expensive) motor from a reputable company uses cheap plastic gears knowing that the motor is used heavily.
However, due to lack of real alternatives you pretty much have to go with this one.

Comments about Replacement Motor for ARD, EARD, & ZD Dampers:

Bought two of these to replace two that had died from my original Honeywell dampers (when installed with the home). I was given an estimate of about $450 to do this work. I purchased two of these and did the repair myself. It took 10 minutes per and was VERY easy! PEX shipped the items fast and reliable too.

Happy customer!

I orderd this actuator as a replacement for original honeywell zoning system installation. Like many reviews here, the plastic gear was worned and there is no replacement just for that. Anyway this dumper actuator is a solid product, shipped fast and installed in less than 15 min. Great company, great price, highly recommended!!!

  • Replacement Motor for ARD, EARD, & ZD Dampers

    Q:

I have had a visit from PSE&G told me I had a damper problem and not a thermostat problem. An HVAC company came and wanted to charge me $1200 to redo my system for 3 masters instead of a master and slave. The duct to the family room has a damper and is controlled by the slave in our added on family room. Thank God the damper is open and the Master thermostat gets heat into the family room. I think it is a problem with the actuator. Got the replacement model for the M835A (not purchase yet). My question is this: Does an electrical current flow into the actuator which then exits the actuator and by electrical impulse signals the gas furnace to turn on? I believe that the way this could be checked is to check the electrical impulse into the actuator and test the electrical output from the actuator. PSE&G told me that it is NOT the thermostat and NOTthe furnace. How, they knew that, I don't know? The HVAC people are coming AGAIN on Thursday coming (last Thursday in March, 2014)

That is very overcharge from an HVAC co. I have seen this acctuator fail,
and does it cost about $ 95.00 each, if you know how to install it.
Search on the internet for that model. Also does have an upgrade model for
      that actuator also.
It is the function of the thermostat to turn on the furnace, on your case
the thermostat send a signal to the control box and the control box send a
signal to the furnace. Also is possible to have an extra thermostat instead
      of the control box.
If need any clarification, just send an email.

The Actuator is controlled by the thermostat that is in line with this duct,
in turn activates the HVAC unit when called for by each thermostat,
depending on how many zones you have.

      A:

Gina, the thermostat sends a signal to your main control unit (in the attic
or basement) that then closes the circuit with the appropriate damper
actuator, which causes it to close/open. The control unit then closes the
circuit to your furnace, A/C, or heat pump, which turns it on. If the
damper is not opening/closing properly then I recommend buying this part
      and replacing the actuator.
I did this several years ago and it took me about an hour or so to swap the
bad one (spring had sprung and it was stuck in the open position) with the
new one. I have very little HVAC experience but this is definitely a
do-it-yourself project if you take your time and are careful and have an
understanding of the electrical connections. You will save a ton of money!
      Good luck!

I just hooked one wire at a time and matched them I have replaced 3 of these that way and it works fine
to know if this the problem the dampers on mine did not stick open they were going bang, bang, bang when the heat came on.
Maybe yours stay open. They are very easy to replace. You can watch them move when the furnace is running, so if they do not move
      they probably need replaced.
      Hope that helps

  • Replacement Motor for ARD, EARD, & ZD Dampers

    Q:

I now have a M847D1004 motor with a stripped out gear. I would like to know if the gears are plastic or brass and if this is a common occurrence in a four year period. The unit now is set for 80/20 distribution. If I purchase the M847D1012, is this easily replaced and set up for the same operation. I am very mechanically inclined and I certainly do not want to pay anyone $275.00 to replace it. What is the warranty on a new motor and can a gear be purchased for my old to keep as a spare. Thanks for your help.

On my M847D1004 unit, the plastic gear is stripped, but not entirely - only about 1/2 way. This allowed the damper to move to about 1/2 way between OPEN and CLOSED positions and then the motor would keep turning, trying to catch the next tooth of the gear. I found that by carefully disassembling the unit, I could reposition the plastic gear 1/2 turn so that a "new" set of teeth would engage the motor. I am hoping this will extend the useful life of the unit for a few more years (it was about 5 years before I started having problems).

      A:

The longevity of a motor can range from 2 to 6 years, depending on the number of times it cycles. The M847D1012 is the correct replacement and the warranty on the motor is 1 year from the date of purchase. There are no parts available for the old and new motors.
