Comments about 3/4" Union Sweat Mixing Valve, 80-120 F:

Pro's: Easy to install and calibrate. I was able to set my water heater at a much higher temperature setting to have a greater reserve of hot water for several showers without running out of hot water. Even with the higher water heater setting there is no fear of scalding someone if say a toilet or other cold water was used. Our daughter, son-in-law and infant are staying with us for a little while and I wanted to make sure the baby could not get scalded. This device meets that need very, very well. The whole house capability was the perfect option for us since retro-fitting the showers/bathtub to temperature compensating valves would have been extremely costly. I did not use the temperature sensing strip included to calibrate the mixing valve. To me a more meaningful setting is what the hottest water I want running over my hand at the faucet so that no one can be scalded by a sudden change in water temperature.

Con's: The reduce volume restriction to 8 gallons per minute could possibly be an issue. If two showers taken simultaneously while laundry and a dishwasher running might be an issue but it has not been for us. Two devices could be installed in parallel to easily resolve that. Some sort of filter/strainer is a necessity to prevent becoming clogged by debris in the water supply.

My experience background:27 years facilities, property maintenance and construction.

Works well, but hard to adjust

Comments about 1/2" Sweat Union Mixing Valve:

I installed this valve in a domestic solar hot water system, mostly as a scald protection device. It has worked very well for over a year, and over all I would highly recommend the product. I have only two small complaints, first, it is very hard to adjust to a specific temperature as it is very easy to loose the knob's position while you are adjusting it. Meaning you could easily end up it the same spot you started on, and not realize it. Also the built in temp sensing strip is a little awkward to use, but I used a infrared thermometer which solved the problem. My other complain was lack of mounting options. There is no built in way to mount the unit, so I ended up using pipe straps, which must be undone in order to adjust the unit. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have some shoulders cast into the body.

How do you adjust the AM100C-US-1 ????

What's the exact model number for this item? There appear to be at least two series of AM-1 valves - the R series which is not acceptable for potable water, and the 1070 series, which is ok for potable water. The link at the bottom of the page is to the spec sheet for the R series, but the description seems to be a 1070 series. Please clarify if this valve is ok for domestic hot water use.

The model number of this unit is AM101C-US-1. The spec sheet is just a generic information sheet, but this unit is the 1070 series, which would be compatible with your potable water system
