        Excellent Product

I use the valve for controlling the water temperature entering the house from the hot water heater. The temp range is great for my application.

With the new lead law in effect most manufactures are clearly marking their Products on the castings and explaining the markings on their websites. This makes complying to this new law not to difficult, you just have to spend a little extra time to make sure the products meet the new code.

Honeywell however has made this exceedingly difficult with this product as they just marked the box lead Free and not the body of the valve. The body of the old valve and the body of the new valve appear identical. I called Honeywell to inquire about the markings and how I could document that the valve that I had purchased met the new lead law. The person on the phone assured me that the valve met the new code, So I said to him, Should I just tell the local inspectors that the guy on the phone said it was ok. Needless to say he was not amused and neither was I as he was evading the obvious. After this exchange the man's advice was, If I am not satisfied by the product than maybe I should try another manufacturer.

This item was an intragal part of a larger installation that could not be performed until this issue was worked out, it caused unneeded costly delays. To avoid this and other issues in the future I think I will take the mans advice.

you *do not* need to loosen the center screw on the handwheel to turn the valve, on older model designs (the screw on these designs is about 1/4 inch long), however on newer model designs, you *do* need to loosen the center screw to about 1/2 inch of thread exposed, then pull the handle out a little and you'll be able to change the water temperature. (the screw on newer designs is about 3/4 inch long) i have an older and newer design valve and this lock-out feature to change the temperature operates differently. the older designs don't have a lock out to change.
