Works great!

Comments about Basic Pro Programmable, 1H/1C, Vertical Thermostat:

Purchased this item to replace TACO thermostats that were installed 50 years ago. Although the old thermostats would call for heat when the dial was manually cranked up, in normal operation the old thermostats did not.

These units display the actual temperature and whether or not the unit is calling for heat. If I were doing it again, I might consider purchasing a more expensive model that shows both the actual temperature and the programmed temperature.

Well Built, weak install instructions

By DQ

Comments about Basic Pro Programmable, 1H/1C, Vertical Thermostat:

Bought to replace old mercury thermostats. new units have six wiring terminals with no instructions for how to hook up the existing two low-voltage wires. Tried several combinations, all resulting in heater running non-stop. Seems foolish to have to hire an electrician to install a thermostat, but their wiring diagram looks like one of John Madden's football plays.

Comments about Basic Pro Programmable, 1H/1C, Vertical Thermostat:

The installation and programming of this unit was a no brainer. This will control 1 heating unit and 1 cooling unit. I am presently only using it for heating. Bought several of these for different zones. Unit is small and compact, a back-lit display helps us old farts who are going blind. Since it has been installed in the summer, it hasn't actually kicked the heat on yet but it has been running through its program. When I actually see it work in the heating season, I'll step it to 5 stars.

    Q:

I have been using this product for few days. I want to ask that yesterday I left for work and set the temp on 68 by setting it to 68 degrees n pressing hold. When I came home, the temp was showing 72 degrees but as soon as I touch arrows keys, it showed me 68 degrees set. So my question is even though the temp is set on 68... Its showing 72 cause that's the room temp or the thermostat is defective.

Hi Muhammad. Try to calibrate the room temperature on the unit if possible.
It operates like any thermometer where it can be adjusted upward or downward
to display the correct temperature. In your case, you would want to
calibrate downward 3 degrees so that your current 72 degrees displays 68
      degrees.

A few years ago when I was renovating my home I purchased a few of these thermostats. Overall I was disappointed with their quality and performance. One was defective and Pex Supply quickly replaced it for me. As for performance I had a similar problem in that the thermostat did not regulate the room temperature accurately. There is one setting I suggest you try. Check your installation instructions, if I recall correctly (it’s been a few years) there is a setting for different types of heating systems, hot water steam, furnace, etc. (BTW, these thermostats don’t work on radiant floor heat!) I tried each setting until I found the one that worked best for my environment. In time I plan to replace these thermostats with better ones. These are inexpensive thermostats, but you know the old expression, you get what you pay for. Good luck.

YES. I replaced the non-programmable thermostats (Honeywell #t87k1007 Heat
Only Thermostat) in two (2) zones with these. The wire connections I used
      were Red and White.

I have a baseboard boiler 24V system and bought this same thermostat. I hooked it up how I thought, but it didn't work so I called Honeywell and they had great tech support which helped me wire it to work for my system. I'm almost certian they could tell you how to wire this for any system as long as the voltage is correct. Previously I had a simple mercury thermostat. Only thing is I have to use batteries now....I had hoped to power the thermostat from the 24V, but that didn't work. Batteries last about a year though.
I was also able to get a credit on my heating bill for installing programmable thermostats, and the credit was more than the cost of the thermostats.. Check with your local utility. Hope this helps.

      A:

Yes, as long as the heat pump does not have auxiliary heat.

      A:

The user manual shows hook-up diagrams for heat pumps, among other configurations. Operation with some particular heat pump can only be inferred from this. The customer is advised to download a copy of the user manual from Venstar's web site.

The basic answer is yes but there are circumstances. If you are looking to replace a non programmable T-stat probably yes. You need to connect the two T terminals of the boiler control to this device according to the schematic with the thermostat. In most cases it should be the R and W terminals.
