Description for Honeywell V4044A1191

On-off and diverting line voltage valves consist of an actuator motor and valve assembly for controlling the flow of hot or chilled water.

  • Manual opener (on all models, except straight-through, normally open valves) for valve operation on power failure; valve returns to automatic position when power is restored.
  • All models may be installed without disassembling the valve.
  • Compact construction for easy installation.
  • Complete powerhead may be removed or replaced without breaking plumbing line connections or draining the system.
  • Motor may be replaced without removing the valve body or draining the system.
  • Suitable for heating and cooling applications.

          ball breaker

Comments about 3/4" Sweat Connection 3 Way Zone Valve, port A normally closed (120v):

I recently used one of these in a solar thermal system to switch between different storage tanks. The system functioned properly for a week, then started acting funny after I added glycol. It appeared that the diverting ball wasn't completely seating on either port of the valve. Tech support was helpful, but agreed that there seemed to be a problem with the ball. I ordered a replacement and opened up the old one (a pain with the glycol). To my surprise, only half of the ball was still present in the valve! The other half was gone, and I spent hours trying to flush it out. Think I'll go with a different brand next time.

            Q:

What does maximum close off pressure mean? My system will be fully pressurized at 35psi with a 50/50 glycol mix. Does the 10psi close off pressure of this unit pose any problems for me? Will the unit switch from A open to B open with out an issue when called upon?

            Thanks,
            Mark

              A:

The close-off rating of Honeywell valves means that if there is more than a 10 psi difference between the ports of the valve, the valve will not close. (Example #1: inlet of 25 psi and an outlet of 15psi (25-15=10) the valve will close. Example #2: inlet of 25 psi outlet of 5 psi (25-5= 20) the valve will not close). Please do not confuse this with the system pressure or the body rating of the valve. The close-off rating is the difference between the supply pressure and the return pressure when the valve is closed.

Does this valve flow from ab to b when de-energized ,then from ab to a when energized?
