Stages describes the number of heat or cool sources that you need to control with a single thermostat.
Voltage, or volts, is a measurement of the difference between two electric fields (in heating terms, the difference between the Earth's electrical field and the electricity running through your wires).

Beats trendy high-tech thermostats...

Comments about White Prestige IAQ Kit with RedLINK (Includes Thermostat, EIM, Wireless Outdoor Sensor & 2 Duct Sensors):
I've used and recommended Honeywell's programmable thermostats for the past 25 years or so, and this system continues with that reputation. This isn't just a whiz-bang gadget; it's a well-engineered package that lives up to its claims. Accurate control over humidification & dehumidification in a single package with the thermostat is an excellent feature. Humidification can be set to run when the fan is circulating air, not just with heat, which can improve comfort. Additional sensors, both indoor and outdoor, gives the microprocessor control much better data to use to run the system more efficiently. The RedLink wireless system works outside the band used by most consumer devices, so it doesn't suffer from interference like WiFi does.Important note - The manual indicates that it's possible to run the central A/C compressor with the system fan at a slower speed for dehumidification. While possible, not all systems can or should be run this way, and not all systems support it in their wiring without modification. Most of the time you'll probably save yourself headaches by setting up dehumidification in simple "overcooling" mode at full fan speed. If you have a room or area that doesn't heat or cool as well as the rest of the house, (typically due to an over-long or odd duct run) use an additional indoor sensor to help the system average the temperature and humidity. It works remarkably well -- better than I ever expected. Honeywell says you can use multiple indoor sensors in averaging mode to ensure more even temperatures throughout the living space. If your system includes a fresh-air ventilator, or if you are considering adding one later, this system will adapt easily.Fan run modes (auto, full-on, or intermittent circulate) can be scheduled. When combined with the humidification control, you can set up the system to maintain comfort far better.Installation and setup is not difficult, but it needs to be done carefully and neatly, which takes time to do right. This system has an Equipment Interface Module -- you are splicing the control board in between the HVAC system's board and the new thermostat controller. This is a lot more wiring than the average DIY person may understand or is comfortable with. Setting up the delta-T diagnostics with the duct sensors requires understanding the basic math involved. It's not difficult -- but it requires attention to details that a DIY install wouldn't require. That's why this is always recommended as a pro install. On the other hand, if you have a good grasp on everything taught in the "old days" of high school shop class, you'll understand it right off.Programming the controls to get maximum efficiency and comfort will take a little time. Start with basic settings and work out from there to get the best out of the system. For instance, you may want to set an extended run time for the fan after the heat call ends for additional recapture into the living space. I found in my system that the run time can be extended by one-and-a half to two minutes after the burner shuts down before there is any noticeable drop in temperature at the registers. The microprocessor in the control head will "learn" the overshoot caused by the extended run and adjust the heat cycle more efficiently over time. Note that extended fan run time can be set independently for heat and cool operation. Cycles per hour limits may also be set independently for heat and cool operation, which can aid in compensating for oversized systems and prevent short-cycling. Again, the microprocessor control will take this into account when it runs the system and adapt to a more efficient cycle profile.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

HONEYWELL SAYS PRO ONLY. IF YOU COULD PROGRAM A VCR YOU COULD PROGRAM THIS T-STAT. DOWNLOAD IPHONE APP. CONTROL TEMP WHEN OUT OF TOWN AND WANT HOUSE WARM OR COOL WHEN YOU RETURN. APP ALSO ACTS AS SECURITY FEATURE. IF TEMPS ARE AS PROGRAMED YOU KNOW KNOW THERE ARE NO EQUIPMENT OR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. NO HOMECOMING SURPRISES.
