Description for Hydrolevel Safgard-1100-H2

Note: This model comes with #45-348 Wire Harness

Standard Application

Safgard 1100 Series Controls are used as the primary low water cut-off device on residential hot water boilers.

Operation

Hydrolevel controls utilize a non-moving, heavy duty, electronic probe to sense liquid levels. The probe can be installed in an equalizing line or directly into a boiler or water tank in accordance with manufacturers instructions and local and State codes. When water is in contact with the probe, it completes a circuit between the stainless steel probe tip and the tank or boiler surface in which the probe is installed. When water level drops below the probe, the circuit opens. Hydrolevel low water cut-offs for hydronic heating systems use the water signal to allow the burner to operate. If the water level drops below the probe, the circuit opens and the cut-off shuts down the burner.

Features

  • Low Maintenance - No moving parts to wear or hang up, as in float devices
  • Compact Size - Designed to fit in tight spaces
  • More Probe Plate Space - Large probe tip puts more conductive surface in the water, leading to more dependable operation and less chance of nuisance boiler shutdowns
  • Power and Low Water LED Indicators - Makes troubleshooting fast and easy.
  • Automatic Reset - Shuts down the burner when water drops below the probe. Automatically restores the burner circuit upon return of a safe water level
  • Test Button - Tests control operation without lowering the water level

Comments about Electronic Low Water Cutoff with Auto Reset -120V (Water):

Supply house was fast as always! Just beware that this is not the typical low water cutoff that's pictured on the website. It's a smaller plastic-cased one with a different wiring layout. However it's still easy to install and works great!

Comments about Electronic Low Water Cutoff with Auto Reset -120V (Water):

Installs quickly and easily. Boiler repair guy had quoted $1150 to replace my existing device and I did this myself for less than $100 and an hour of my time on a Sunday. Do remember to isolate your control circuit at the breaker and double check with a multi-meter before you start. Also remember that the lug in the center of the box needs to be tightened as this is an electrical contact between the probe and the circuit board. (I accidentally left this loose before double checking my work and catching my error.)

                Q:

The case is plastic. Can I use flexible metal conduit to install, assuming conduit is grounded?

                  A:

The 1150 grounds through the probe to the boiler shell or a pipe tee. The control box mounting screws ground the circuit board to the probe. Check to ensure that both mounting screws are tightened securely and that the probe is not insulated from the boiler shell or tee with excessive use of Teflon tape or sealing compound.
