Description for K-Flex 6RXL038158

Overview:

Insul-Lock® insulation products and accessories are widely recognized by the HVACR and Plumbing wholesale trade. They offer superior product characteristics such as cold weather flexibility, durable skin surface and exacting manufacturing tolerances.

Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal pipe insulation is an environmentally friendly, CFC-free, flexible elastomeric insulation, pre-slit with a factory-applied pressure sensitive adhesive. It is black in color and identified as Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal. This superior closed cell insulation is designed to retard heat flow and prevent condensation when properly installed. Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal pipe insulation is pre-slit with a factory applied specially formulated bonding adhesive applied to both seam surfaces and comes with convenient built-in release liners which allow for easy installation. Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal has the same excellent insulation properties as standard Insul-Tube® and is used on similar applications such as refrigerant lines, cold water plumbing, roof drains and chilled water systems. Insul-Lock® Seam- Seal can be used with heat tracing/heat tapes.

Insul-Lock uses the pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) seam-seal system. The PSA system enables the user to fit the tube over the pipe, peel back the release liner and apply pressure to close (starting at the ends and working your way to the center) to install your insulation in seconds! This system guarantees a strong, durable seal without the risk of messy adhesives that could spill.

Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal is non-porous, non-fibrous and resists mold growth. An EPA registered antimicrobial agent is incorporated into the product providing additional protection against mold, fungal and bacterial growth.

K-Flex USA elastomeric insulation products are GREENGUARD® certified as low VOC materials, meeting the requirements of the Children and Schools classification, the most stringent requirements. Additionally, all K-Flex USA elastomeric insulation products are GREENGUARD® listed for mold resistance and meet the "mold resistant" criteria.

Replaced the original insulation that was only 3 years old. The quality of this product was markedly better than the original. Shipping was lightning fast, and I received the product WAY faster than anticipated.

A++++ for the entire purchase experience!

I used this product wrapping 3/4 pex for a water stove. Was easy to use plus made a great looking job. Will know later if it does keep the hot water hot going from the water stove to the heat exchanger in my forced air duck work. No problems with the product and got great service with the people from Pex supply.

Great price for a good material.

I used this to insulate mostly-exposed hot water pipes in my unfinished basement. It's fast, easy and a sharp knife provides surprisingly exact cuts. It's flexible enough to be stretched a bit to get into tight spaces between, say, the pipe and a beam. The top layer can fails and split open a bit in spots.

I couldn't give it a full five stars because the adhesive is tricky. It works well if you connect the sides correctly to close the seam, but it can't be re-placed once stuck together. It can be pulled off the base material, especially at the end of the insulation section.

Be careful, take your time and you should be OK.

I insulated both heating and heat pump cooling piping with this insulation. It has worked as expected. It cuts easily and seals nicely to prevent condensation.

                                        Q:

I have a 1 1/2 sump pump line that extends 18 inches past the exterior wall. I live in Wisconsin and was wondering if this will help the 18 inch of pipe sticking out the exterior wall from freezing. The water from the sump pump is then piped underground to a drainage ditch. The underground pipe never seems to freeze, but that 18 inches of pipe seems to. Can you help??

Yes, adding insulation to the exposed 18" of pipe will help reduce the risk of freezing. This product has moderate UV resistance and can be used in outdoor applications (except roofs).

                                          A:

There's no thermal reason that it won't work, and the diameters are about the same, but there's no effective way to install/hang/support it and have it look decent.  As well, PEX expands and contracts which, depending on how the insulation is installed and supported, may cause the glue seals the separate over time.
If allowance were made for expansion, the foam insul could be used on stick (non-flexible)PEX, but that's typically only 1-inch and larger pipe.

First, remember pex needs to be supported. Plan the support system while
planning the insulation of the line.
Doubling the R-value does not mean you cut the heat loss in half. However
added insulation will always reduce the loss. The key is that there is a
                                          point of diminishing returns.
If you can afford it and want to reduce as much heat loss as possible -
double up on the insulation. The key is that corners, bends, connectors
should also be insulated and sealed. I my recirc lines I can feel and
measure some heat loss through the insulation even though I used a ½ wall
insulation. I will probably go back and add a second thicker (cheaper)
layer of pipe insulation on top of what I had previously done.
You need to meet the minimal codes in your area. After that it comes down
to how much you are willing to spend and if you are expecting a fast or
                                          slow return on your investment.

This is the proper insulation for 3/4" PEX that we carry. We also sell pre-insulated AquaPEX tubing from Uponor.

I have pex tubing in my attic that sometimes freezes in the winter. Can this be used to insulate pex?

This insulation can be used with PEX. PEX has the same outside diameter as copper and CPVC. Outside diameter will always be 1/8" larger than the listed size of the tubing.

The tubing for the A/C units are not standard sizes. The tubing is usually dependent on the manufacturer, model and size of your A/C unit. This is the largest line insulation we sell so it will most likely work in your application. It may be a little loose on the lines but you would be able to zip tie the insulation down to the tubing.
