Description for K-Flex 6RXL048218

Overview:

Insul-Lock® insulation products and accessories are widely recognized by the HVACR and Plumbing wholesale trade. They offer superior product characteristics such as cold weather flexibility, durable skin surface and exacting manufacturing tolerances.

Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal pipe insulation is an environmentally friendly, CFC-free, flexible elastomeric insulation, pre-slit with a factory-applied pressure sensitive adhesive. It is black in color and identified as Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal. This superior closed cell insulation is designed to retard heat flow and prevent condensation when properly installed. Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal pipe insulation is pre-slit with a factory applied specially formulated bonding adhesive applied to both seam surfaces and comes with convenient built-in release liners which allow for easy installation. Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal has the same excellent insulation properties as standard Insul-Tube® and is used on similar applications such as refrigerant lines, cold water plumbing, roof drains and chilled water systems. Insul-Lock® Seam- Seal can be used with heat tracing/heat tapes.

Insul-Lock uses the pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) seam-seal system. The PSA system enables the user to fit the tube over the pipe, peel back the release liner and apply pressure to close (starting at the ends and working your way to the center) to install your insulation in seconds! This system guarantees a strong, durable seal without the risk of messy adhesives that could spill.

Insul-Lock® Seam-Seal is non-porous, non-fibrous and resists mold growth. An EPA registered antimicrobial agent is incorporated into the product providing additional protection against mold, fungal and bacterial growth.

K-Flex USA elastomeric insulation products are GREENGUARD® certified as low VOC materials, meeting the requirements of the Children and Schools classification, the most stringent requirements. Additionally, all K-Flex USA elastomeric insulation products are GREENGUARD® listed for mold resistance and meet the "mold resistant" criteria.

I am an amateur and used the product to insulate my basement pipes for my hot water heating system (to prevent unnecessary heat loss to the basement.) (Max water temp is 180F) This product came with a tape adhesive that went the length of the pipe insulation. After a few days the adhesive loosened and I used duct tape to reinforce.

I am also unsure (with this and insulation for a smaller pipe) if I measured/ordered correctly for the size of pipe. How snugly should the insulation fit?

The product was easy to use and seems to do the job. I don't like to use fiberglass wrap and this was much easier. The pipe wrap could be cut to size and used on elbows to some extent. (Because I was not using the insulation to protect from freezing, it was not necessary to get every spot of pipe covered.)

Perhaps this was overkill for hot water heating pipes, but hardware stores do not carry insulation sleeves for larger pipes. Not sure if I will recover my costs with heat saved. (Basement was always the warmest room in the house!) Not sure if I will insulate the incoming pipes (cooler) as well as the outgoing lines.

Seems to be a quality product.

The picture doesn't show there is a 1in. tape roll-over in additional the seam glue. Big box stores were sold out of all pipe insulation for entire Metro area due to unseasonably severe cold spell. PS had insulation in-stock.

I use it to wrap electrical cables that run up the inside of my sailboat mast (45 ft boat, 63 ft mast)to dampen any slapping noise that is typical of cables inside a mast. I wanted a product that would not disintegrate/crumble over the years, and your specs seem to fit the bill. Time will tell. However, the product is very easy to apply and with judicious use of your special tape between 6 ft sections it stays in place on this vertical array very well. Thanks for a great product. John

IT'S GOOD. iT'S SOAFT AND FLEXIABLE FORM RUBBER PIPE INSULATION. IT'S NOT THE MUCH MORE RIGID FOAM PLASTIC INSULATION WHICH REQUIRES SEPARATE MOLEDED PIECES OF INSULATION FOR EACH FITTING.
WITH THE K-FLEX YOU CAN INSTALL A LONG PIECE ON A STRAIGHT PIECE OF PIPE AND THEN SLIDE IT AROUND THE 90 DEGRELL ELBOWS. IF IT STICKS JUST SPRAY THE PIPE OR THE INSULATION WITH A LITTLE SILICON SPRAY. THEN IS WILL SLIP AND SLIDE VERY EASILY. THERE ARE TWO PEEL AND STICK GLUE STRIPS. ONE FOR THE BUT JOINT AND ONE THAT OVER LAPS THE BUT JOINT. OTHER BRANDS DO JUST THE BUTT JOINT. ALSO PEX SUPPLY HAS GOOD PRICES ON THIS AND HARD TO FIND SIZES. THEY CRAM IT IN A CUIB BOX SO IT COMES OUT ALL BENT OUT OF SHAP. DO NOT LEAVE IT IN THE BOX. LAY IT OUT FLAT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND IT WILL STRAIGHTEN OUT.

I installed this insulation recently in various sizes on some radiator pipes. Generally I'm happy with it. The exterior still feels warm and thus letting hear through, but I think it's doing a decent job. Though only time will tell. It has sticky material to keep the insulation sealed but either I mismeasured or the insulation was small and I had to use zip ties to keep this closed around the pipe. The price was reasonable compare to some other locations I looked at.

I had installed a dryer booster fan system and I went straight up through the roof. Having used galvanized pipe, I found that the laundry room got very warm, so I researched on line and found this foam insulation. Since The Family Handyman magazine recommended this company, I felt comfortable ordering from Pex Supply. It was very easy to cut and install. The sizing was a perfect fit and it looks good. Laundry room temperature dropped back to normal.

my experience was that the glue strip tended to de-laminate from the foam when I pulled it apart, although not entirely. you could maybe only reseal it once but I would have glue on hand - not sure which kind would be best for the application.
