Comments about 36" Thermopile Generator w/ PG9 Pilot Adaptor:

Have a gas fireplace 12 yrs old. It would not consistently
fire up from pilot when thermostat requested heat I replaced
the thermopile (original was Robert Shaw). Now everything
        works like new.

Comments about 36" Thermopile Generator w/ PG9 Pilot Adaptor:

Replaced thermopile from 1998 vintage Regency gas fireplace insert. Needed the PG9 adaptor. The outside diameter of the 'pile of new item is smaller than original -- but I cut down an old PG9 to extend the reach and fill-out the inside diameter of the pilot burner. PG9 if 1/4" longer would have worked without this "fix." Otherwise, the 'pile works just fine.

I replaced the thermocoupler and thermopile on my Superior fireplece insert. The part numbers for Superior would not research so after a thorough web search I decided on this Robertshaw thermopile. It is identical to the one I replaced.[...] I would shop here again.

                                                    Q:

I have a Superior Fireplace Company, model GHC 5500 (natual gas) fireplace. The pilot light will stay on for quite a while (sometimes 15 minutes or so) before extinguishing and will sometimes relight almost right away. I think the thermopile generator is faulty (maybe ?) and it looks like it is this model. The manual makes ref. to Robertshaw Controls millivolt systems but does not specify the part no. for the thermopile gen. alone (only as part of the pilot/generator combo. TP-75). The store in our town has one for sale at $73 !!! and its NON RETURNABLE. Can you tell me if this product is the right thermopile for my fireplace?

You can either use the Robertshaw 1950-532 or the Honeywell Q313A1139 or Q313A1170.

I have a Superior fireplace insert as well, DVR-5000 series. I used this part to replace their part number 094699. I would say that this part would replace your themopile but I would suggest that your problem is more likely a thermocouple failing. The theromocouple is a "quick-shutoff" for the pilot light. The Thermopile is a separate device used to turn the main gas valve on. The thermopile creates 250 - 750 millivolts between it's two leads. This voltage is needed to function "ON" the main gas valve. The themocouple costs somewhere in the $10.00 range so maybe replacing both is the better solution. Heck , you've got the fireplace apart, may as well do the whole job, eh! The price of both is still less than the $73.00 your neighborhood outlet wanted.

Can't say for certain, BUT remove the original and compare. I had same issue with a Regency insert and took a gamble based on pricing. Had to adapt the PG9 to work with the original style pilot burner. Got it installed and works fine. Buy one and try it. If the other item is an exact replacement, it may be worth the extra cost in case there are fitment issues like mine. Good luck !!
