Ignition Type: Intermittent Pilot

Description for Robertshaw 780-845

When the thermostat calls for heat, the 780-845 control simultaneously initiates ignition sparking and opens the pilot valve portion of the gas valve. Pilot flame recognition stops ignition sparking and opens the main valve portion of the gas valve. Pilot burner flame is continuously monitored at a synchronous frequency for the duration of the heating cycle. Should the pilot flame fail during the heating cycle, the control will shut off the main valve until the pilot flame is established.

The 780-845 lockout ignition control provides 90 seconds of spark, followed by a 6 minute time delay (purge) between ignition attempts. After three tries, if no pilot flame is sensed, the control goes into a one-hour lockout period. At the end of the lockout period, if the demand for heat is still present, the unit will repeat the three tries for ignition.

During lockout, you may override the auto-system, and manually reset the unit at the thermostat. The green diagnostic LED will be on continuously for normal operation. The LED will be off for internal lockout and will flash continuously for problems external to the control (ie. not sensing flame).

Purchased this to replace older model SP-845. Arrived very quickly and sooo easy to install. Just plug and play. Used to replace older model Robertshaw in a natural gas Bradley White hot water heater. Saved a considerable amount of money by making this repair myself and not calling a plumber. Not bad for a 60 year old lady right?

Our neighborhood is about 15years old now. The original modules in the houses are all starting to go. A neighbor recommended me to buy this instead of paying a technician to tell me to buy this part. The old unit was real easy to remove and the new one went in quick. The only quirk is the Sensor cable for me, you need to take the jumper cable and plug it into the module. After that the ignition has been working flawlessly fro about 4 weeks now.

Easy to install, works like a charm, now we have hot water again! Be sure to tag the wires (e.g. IGN, PV, MV, GND) before detaching wiring connectors from the old controller, then installation is a breeze. Works with BOTH External and Internal flame sensing systems by using jumper wire to designate application.

Just pay close attention when you attach those leads. The IGN is attached on top of the new unit and one of your wires from the old unit no longer needs to be hooked up. I did mine side by side and had no trouble. Take a picture of how it was originaly wired for reference. If you dont get a spark you did it wrong. Make sure gas and elec is off during install. Happy heating!!! Oh yea it cost less than the original, WOW

The one you need depends on the entire model number (i.e. what comes after 'DS845'). You may want to check with Heatilator on whether or not this was an OEM part.
