works great

Comments about 1/2" Spirotop Air Release Valve (Threaded):

I've been struggling for years to completely purge air from an old and rather wacky system. Installed this on the boiler, and had it purged in a day.

The only "problem" with this device is that I didn't find out about it 5 years ago ;-)

Solved Venting Problem

Comments about 1/2" Spirotop Air Release Valve (Threaded):

It's large and costs more money than the removal items. But ten minutes later the hydronic system was properly vented and has remained in proper function since.

I'd definitely use it again.

My answer would be a qualified yes you can. They are almost the same item
functionally. However, this has a 1/2" tapping and most of the float type
vents (hy-vents)near boilers are on to of air scoops and those air scoops
normally have 3/8" tapings so you would need to rig an adapter. Also, the
physical size and weight of this is a little bit more than that of the more
typical hy-vent so be sure to take that into account.leaking hy-vent on top of my indirect water heater. It worked out
well for that. I would also mention that these are more sensitive to
letting air into the system under certain conditions and there is no little
cap on it to seal off a leaker until a replacement can be found. You can
however fashion a cap though with regular fittings. There will be no air
elimination advantage gained by using this as a replacement for a hy-vent.
What you gain though is a more reliable product in my opinion.

      Dear customer Nick,
This is a great product to replace the float type air vent that should be
located in the air purger somewhere near the boiler. The spirotop has a
threaded air vent so if you have your boiler somewhere in the middle of your
house where you do not want water sprayed you could connect a soft copper
line to it and run it outside or do a drain were if water ever did come out
of the vent, it would not ruin anything or be objectionable. I also
believe that spirovent has a great warranty on this product which other vent
      companies do not have.
      Sincerely,
      Dave @ Ray Heating

That's exactly what I did - put in this Spirotop valve near my boiler to
replace the old bleeder valve. Works great, Spirotop immediately bled out
the air and heating has been silent and effective ever since.
