Comments about Taco Pump Replacement Cartridge TAC008-044RP (for 008CI):

I have 4 heating zones in my home. Three of the zones use the 007 Taco Pump but the zone with the longest and highest circuit uses the 008 Taco Pump ( the 008 has a higher "shut-off head loss" rating than the 007 and, hence, is a good choice for this zone ). If you have a zoned hot water heat system consisting of a "boiler" and baseboard "heaters" and you have a long "zone" with numerous bends or a long run to a second or third floor and that zone is "short cycling" you may want to consider the 008. Unfortunately, because someone in my house (who shall remain anonymous) messes with the thermostat settings, that zone runs too often and that leads to premature pump failure. When that pump started getting noisy awhile back I quickly went on-line and ordered the replacement cartridge from Pex. It arrived in about a week (maybe even sooner) and I switched it out one Saturday morning. It takes about 15-30 minutes to : 1. shut off the boiler 2. make sure all electricity to the pump is disconnected (My system has a switch for each zone) 3. close the isolation valves and drain the section of the zone between the isolation valves 4. remove the old cartridge (required using an allen wrench to remove the retaining screws) 5. install the new cartridge (be careful that the new O-ring that comes with the cartridge is properly seated). 6. re-fill and dynamically flush the zone to remove air from the system (I have a "boiler drain" on each zone and attach a garden hose to the drain and the other end of the hose I hold under water in a bucket, open the fill valve at the pressure regulator, and watch the end of the hose for air bubbles as I purge air from the zone, once the air bubbles cease I close the boiler drain, close the fill valve, and remove the garden hose from the boiler drain.) 7. I restore power to the zone, to the boiler, and check the operation of the system. Net result: I have a quiet system again.

These replacement cartridges are easy to install/replace and cost effective is an understatement. Why buy the pump assy. when this might be all you need.
