Description for Taco 219-4

For more than 40 years, designers and installers have used Taco Flo-Cheks in forced hot water heating systems to prevent gravity circulation during periods when the boiler is hot, but the space heating zone is not wanted. This makes it possible to use the heating boiler to maintain domestic hot water year-round. You can also use Flo-Cheks in systems with multiple circulator zones to allow heat to flow only into the zones that are calling for heat. In addition, the thumb screw can be opened manually for gravity feed applications, if the main circulator stops operating.

Features Include:

  • Automatically Opens When Circulator Starts Running
  • Cast Iron, Universal Body or Bronze Sweat-In Configuration
  • 125 PSI Maximum Operating Pressure (862 kPa)
  • 277 degrees F Maximum Operating Temperature (136 degrees C)

Note: Do not use this item for any installation or repair of potable water applications. This product does not comply with the "Safe Drinking Water Act," which requires that products meet low-lead standards in order to be used in systems providing water for human consumption (drinking or cooking). This item is for non-potable (non-human consumption) water applications only.

Completely solved my problem

Comments about 1" Horizontal (Bronze) Taco Flo-Chek:

My new geothermal Unico miniduct system was circulating warm or cold water even when the pump was off. A friend mentioned the idea of "ghost circulation" and recommended I try a "gravity flow check valve".

This was quick and easy to install, and totally solved the problem. Supply House was really deasy to deal with and thepart came before it was promised.

Works but leaks

Comments about 3/4" CxC Horizontal (Bronze) Taco Flo-Chek:

I installed 4 of these in a system with multiple circulators. They stopped the "phantom" circulation in an "off" zone when another zone was "on".

But they have leaked. The knob on top is for forcing the valve open, for gravity circulation when there is a loss of power. But that means there is a shaft that passes through a gland. If the knob is not tight enough, the gland leaks. They have all leaked & I have had to re-tightened them (with a wrench), one of them four times.

A very simple valve, but worked as advertised. It stopped the gravity circulation.

Comments about 3/4" CxC Horizontal (Bronze) Taco Flo-Chek:

I'm useing this flow valve on my heated kitchen floor. It's connected to my water heater on the return side. It works great to stop the 'gravity pull' effect from cool water falling back to the heater. When the days get colder, I can open the valve easily and allow gravity to move the water without the pump.
A 1/2" option would really be nice. 3/4" is really overkill for this application.

I have one of these valves and every season I have to bang the valve to get it to work, otherwise, heat is always going to the zone. Do you sell any replacement parts for this so I don't have to solder a new one on?

    Q:

The Weil McLain Ultra boiler requires a "flow/check valve with weighted seats to prevent gravity circulaion" for each zone with a circulating pump. Does this valve meet these requirements? Or could I just use the Taco IFC pump?
Asked on 1/27/2011 by Anonymous from Marquette, MI

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Yes, this valve meets those requirements. As long as you already have a pump, you do not need an IFC pump.

    Q:

My heating system was installed with the circulators on the return side of my boiler. I have 9 zones. Just regular Taco check valves were installed verticuly off the manifold on the supply side ofn the boiler and two of the second floor zones heat up when heat is not called for. I was told to remove the regular check valve and install the Taco flo-checks. Is this accurate information and does it sound like my heating system was installed correctly?

    Thank you very much, Joe

      A:

We recommend that you make sure your current check valves are installed correctly and are not defective.
