I installed this on my hot water heater. This serves several purposes: 1. It regulates the water temperature better, the temperature does not go up or down as the tank empties, or when the burner comes on. and 2. I can get more hot water out of my 30 gallon tank. We do not run out of water any more. The price was a lot less than a new water heater and the installation was easier as well.I also bought two Sharkbite Temp gauges. One on the hot water, and one on the mixed water. It is a bit of an extravagance, but it makes it very easy to see how well it is working, and it is working very well. It confirms the factory setting of 130 degrees is correct as well as steady, and when I changed it, I could see the result quickly and easily. The gauge on the hot water outlet shows me how much the Honeywell thermostat is off, (which was considerable). I put the water heater at 160 degrees, and the mixed temp was rock steady at 130. Also, now, I NEVER run out of hot water.I set the mixed temp down to about 118, and the hot water to 140. We are very happy with this setting. Steady temperature and plenty of hot water. If you choose to economize and get only one gauge, put it on the hot water side. You can always measure the mixed water with a meat thermometer at a faucet. You cannot measure the hot water side.Reading the other messages, it looks like there is an O ring that can go bad. It would probably be a good idea to buy it for a spare when you get this. [...]

A professional plumber installed mine when I received a whole new gas fired furnace in summer of 2007. Worked fine until this past Feb 2012. In the past 2 months the temperature of the hot water to our shower has become totally unreliable. While the main tank is 160F the valve starts off suppling water at 120F then drops to 90F or lower, I then need to manually turn the valve back and forth to get it to "unstick" and give us water at 120F. It is then okay for a few days. Unfortunately it returns back to only allowing water in at 90F or lower without any warning. I have set it to allow max hot water, but this has not solved the problem.

Very easy to install. I'm a homeowner with little plumbing experience and I was able to install the mixing valve with ease. Performed perfectly. Easy to adjust water temp.
