Description for Taco 554-1

The Taco D-MAND System is the only recirculating system that operates 24 hours to provide hot water (on demand) at the same time it saves water, energy and money.
The D-MAND System is a small, silent pump that you attach to the hot and cold water lines in the cabinet under the most remote kitchen or bath fixture in the home. When the D-MAND System is activated, the cool water you normally let run down the drain is recirculated back to the water heater through the cold water line.
On demand, the pump circulates hot water from the water heater and returns the cooled water back through the cold water line. When the hot water arrives at the faucet, the D-MAND Systems patented heat sensor and control board shut off the pump to prevent pumping excess hot water into the cold water line.

  • Runs Only When Activated by the User
  • Automatically Senses When Water is Hot Enough
  • Saves Water, Energy and Money
  • Saves Construction Costs + No new return line needed and no need to drain the system
  • Simple Installation
  • Remote RF Transmitter/ Receiver Kit

    RF Remote makes installation/use easier

Comments about RF Remote Transmitter/Reciever Kit for D'Mand System:

Instead of running signal wires and drilling a hole for the push button, you just connect the RF Remote with the provided wires, and put a battery in the remote transmitter. Simple and clean, and the remote transmitter can be placed anywhere that is convenient for use.

Comments about RF Remote Transmitter/Reciever Kit for D'Mand System:

Have a two-storey house. Installed the pump in the master bath upstairs. We use the remote transmitter in the kitchen (below) to get hot water quickly when washing dishes. Saves water and time, and puts an end to washing dishes in cold water!

    • RF Remote Transmitter/Reciever Kit for D'Mand System

      Q:

I have a Taco 008-DM-Pk recirculating pump and a 554-1 remote transmitter/receiver installed in my house. I would like to install a second unit on a branch that goes to the kitchen and laundry room. My question is can you have two 554-1 remote transmitter/receivers in the same building where they would definitely be in range of each other? In other words is there a method of putting one of the units on a different set of frequencies.

I haven't done that, but I don't see why it shouldn't work.  Here's an excerpt from the installation instructions:
        "Installing Batteries to the Transmitter:
Open  transmitter  by  inserting  a  small  flathead  screwdriver  into  slot  to  release  catch.
Load  battery  with  negative  side  of  battery  toward  spring.  Carefully  replace  cover.
Numbered jumper pins are inside the transmitter and receiver. The signal frequency can
be changed by removing the same numbered pins from both the receiver and transmit-
ter. This should only be necessary when two D’MAND Systems are in the same home
        or neighboring homes."

Yes. From the Installation and Operating Instructions: Numbered jumper pins are inside the transmitter and receiver. The signal frequency can be changed by removing the same numbered pins from both the receiver and the transmitter.
My personal input: I have two recirculating pumps. I did remove a jumper pin for the transmitter and receiver for one of the pumps, but the range for the transmitters is very short-no more than 20 feet in my experience-so removing jumper pins may not be necessary. One of the transmitters I received with my purchase has a range of no more than 5 feet with a new battery rendering it useless.
