Description for Viega 35030

FostaPEX tubing adds aluminum and PE outer layers to the tubing to provide form stability and an oxygen barrier. FostaPEX can be bent and will hold its new shape - excellent for exposed runs in basements and baseboard connections. For use with the Viega press fittings only.

This FostaPEX Prep Tool is required to ensure the tubing is prepared for secure PEX Press connections.

Note: FostaPEX Tubing is only compatible with Viega PEX Press Fittings, it is not compatible with Uponor (Wirsbo) Multi-Press fittings.

Comments about 1" FostaPEX PEX-AL-PEX Tubing (150 ft. coil):

For heated water supply and return FostaPex is a Godsend. Though a bit stiff to work with, it's worth the effort, and an advantage when you want the pipe to hold its shape.

Comments about 3/4" FostaPEX PEX-AL-PEX Tubing (150 ft. coil):

there is one downer. They donot make tube talons that fit over the fosta pex. The extra aluminum outside shield adds a little thickness. But the product has so many benifits and pros that I can deal with the minor troubles.

Great for Concrete Slab Installations

Comments about 1/2" FostaPEX PEX-AL-PEX Tubing (300 ft. coil):

We used this in our basement concrete slab and it worked out great. The outer aluminum layer helped protect the tubing from damage during the concrete pour - worth the small extra cost.

    Q:

    Hello,

If I use the FostaPEX prep tool to strip the outer layers, will that allow me to use standard barbed fittings and crimp/clamp systems with the remaining exposed inner tube? From what I can tell, the innermost tube of FostaPex looks like standard PEX..

    Thanks,
    James

      A:

don't do it. don't use ANY pex fittings other than Viega Press with the Fostapex. They are the best in all aspects, and will NOT leak. I use FostaPex for baseboard heat runs, and for compressed air in my shop. Viega fittings are like mini-hydraulic fittings, and are the very best. Yes, make sure you use the prep tool on the fostapex.

      A:

Yes. That's the idea. From their website: "Viega FostaPEX is the only
product on the market with a fully dimensional PEX tubing wall, allowing it
to be used with the standard Viega PEX Press fitting system."

I am a DIY newbie homeowner. Can I use a Sharkbite coupler to go from 1/2" Frostapex to a more standard 1/2 PEX pipe like they sell in hardware stores?

      A:

FostaPEX only works with PEX press fittings. You would not be able to use a SharkBite fitting with it.

    Q:

Which hangers should I use to mount 3/4" FostaPEX onto and through joists? 3/4" Fostapex has an OD of .875", too small for 1" and too big for 3/4"
Asked on 5/1/2012 by Mal from Maywood, NJ

      A:

Standard copper tubing used for water supply has an OD of 0.875, or 7/8",
the same size as FostaPEX. See, it's nice that they thought about this
      ahead of time.
In the building trades, it seems that nothing is the size it says it is.
2x4s are 1.5x3.5, 1/2" iron pipe is bigger than 1/2" even on the inside.
The same is true of copper tubing.
On the other hand, air conditioning tubing is measured on the OD. So 1/2"
A/C tubing is the same as 3/8 water tubing.

I just recently installed the ¾” FostaPex in my addition for all my heating
lines and I used a combination of the multi-sized Tube Talon and the ¾”
j-hooks. I mostly used the Talon’s as they were easier to install in my
application, however both have a “snap” tight fit that works very well. Fair
warning though, the Talon nails are ribbed, so when they are in, they’re in!

Any hangers designed for use with standard 3/4" PEX tubing (i.e. PEX without an aluminum layer) will work with 3/4" FostaPEX. Like 3/4" FostaPEX, 3/4" PEX tubing has a 0.875" outside diameter.

What is the btu ratings for 3/4 inch fostapex
Asked on 8/23/2011 by tipper from gloversville, Ny

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

The tubing itself does not have a BTU rating. In a radiant heat system, the amount of BTU's you will get through the tubing depends on the boiler, the delta T, and the sizing of the tubing and circulators.
