Comments about 1-1/2" Propress Copper 45 Elbow (PxP):
I love pro-press but had to debate using pro-press because of cost on the larger fittings (this project used 1.5" and 2" fittings). These fittings are extremely expensive even though Supplyhous.com is usually more competitive than local vendors until you add in shipping (sometimes I have to overnight fittings as well which also adds to the cost). I do save some labor cost but it still does not offset the cost enough with the larger stuff. It is a money maker by far on 3/4" and smaller fittings by far and maybe even 1". Even with these cost issues I still prefer pro-press over the old method or soldering. I have never had a leak and everything always looks clean and is not discolored by heat (You can spray all copper with clear coat for cosmetics if interested in retaining the shinny look). Another BIG TIME SAVER BY FAR is that you can make a repair to an existing potable water system for example with water in the pipe without having to remove or freeze the pipe etc. (this is a very big deal). Although Journeymen work most of these projects almost anyone can use pro-press as long as they follow the simple directions. Connection time is less than 15 seconds. Lastly, I mainly install heating and air conditioning systems including chillers and hydronic floor heating systems and I don't have to worry about overheating any diagnostic components when pressing. In short to sum it up again I LOVE pro-press but hate the cost and I know they (Viega) can do better. They are still selling though so costs are going to continue to raise. Example 1.5" Copper 45 (SKU# WP6-24) is about 400% more than the same in pro-press I know the manufacturing cost doesn't require a increase of 400%. If you ever need a large ball valve then I suggest buying regular F.P.T. ball valves and then (2) M.P.T. x pro-press adapters to save about $150 depending on size. I will still purchase pro-press because my installations will be standardized and high quality but man is the bigger pro-press fittings expensive!!!!
