No Nuts!

By Zink

Comments about Ice Maker Valve, 1/2" PEX x 1/4" OD Compression (Lead Free):

Just what I needed to do a retro of PEX into my existing ice-maker box ! However, mine did not come with jam nuts... or any kind of mounting for that matter. I ended up using the nuts from an electrical knock-out clamp. I would have preferred brass or some other non-corrosive material but nothing could be found. In fact, it was amusing how many "hardware professionals" were baffled at exactly what would fit.

Good - missing a nut

Comments about Ice Maker Valve, 1/2" PEX x 1/4" OD Compression (Lead Free):

Seems to be good quality. It came without a nut on the large threads to mount it to a box. I've gotten 2, both without nuts, so I don't think it's a mistake. Other than that, it's a great product.

Just the fitting I needed

Comments about Ice Maker Valve, 1/2" PEX x 1/4" OD Compression (Lead Free):

Needed this fitting to hook up an ice maker. Compact in size and makes the transition from 1/2" pex a snap. I did have to acquire threaded washer nuts to install the fitting in a box recessed in the wall. It would be nice if they came with the fitting.

    Q:

How is this advertised as an Ice Maker valve and then have a disclaimer that it's not to be used for potable water?

      A:

It contains brass. The EPA has gone nuts, brass contains a small amount of
lead in it's manufacturing always has. Used to be all faucets and valves
      were brass.

      A:

New low-lead standards went into effect in the United States in January 2014. This valve was acceptable for use in potable water installations in most states under the old standards. Under the new standards, we would recommend part HVI0500LF.

    Q:

I have a humidifier with 1/4" plastic tubing connected to a saddle valve. Will this valve work with 1/4" plastic tubing? I am looking for something to go between 1/2" PEX and 1/4" tubing. I have a manifold so I don't absolutely need the valve. Is there a 1/2" PEX to 1/4" tubing adapter available that I could be using instead of a value?

      A:

Yes, the 1/2" is a HydroPEX fitting which accepts the crimp or clamp system. As a side note, the 1/4" is compression and requires no tool.
