Pleasantly Surprised

Comments about 80 Series Programmable, 2H/2C, Digital Thermostat w/ Wireless Remote Sensor:

I am so used to products that use wireless transmission being grossly under designed in that the communication link is dependent upon the right "phase of the moon" and a host of other factors. This product just works. The communication between the wireless thermostat is reliable and robust.

So far so good

Comments about 80 Series Programmable, 2H/2C, Digital Thermostat w/ Wireless Remote Sensor:

Relatively easy install once you take the time to read the manual and document all the wiring. Documenting the old wiring and comparing it to the new makes it much easier. Easy to program (better than the old system). So far so good...

Cold room no more!

By Steve

from Louisville, KY

Verified Buyer

Comments about 80 Series Programmable, 2H/2C, Digital Thermostat w/ Wireless Remote Sensor:

I bought this remote sensor for a room that was always colder in winter and hotter in the summer than the other area on the same thermostat. This solved my problem. The remote can be setup to influence the temperature of that system or be the sole controller. Now the room stays the temperature that I want.
It was easy to install. Just look how the old one is wired and copy with the new one. Select in the menu your preferences with the instruction manual and you are good to go. The manual was very complete and easy to follow. I would recommend reading it completely first.

Solved my problem

By Charlie

Comments about 80 Series Programmable, 2H/2C, Digital Thermostat w/ Wireless Remote Sensor:

The thermostat in the upstairs of my house is centrally located, and is greatly affected by heat rising from the first floor. The result is that my kids' rooms get cold (I have to keep the doors closed so that they don't wake up). I had to put space heaters in their rooms, which is very inefficient. With the remote sensor on this thermostat, I can control the heating/cooling from inside the bedrooms, so get better temperature control and eliminate the space heaters.

The only thing that I would like better on this product is if it allowed you to program which temperature sensor to use in each time period. You can use the locat one, the remote one, or a weighted average, but whatever you choose is used all the time.

I replaced a standard White Rogers thermostat with this one, so installation was relatively easy. and the look is basically unchanged.

The sensor will only display the current room temperature.

      A:

The sensor always shows the current temperature. When you select a lower or higher temperature it is only indicated by a number of bars that you select above or below the temperature. Up to five up or down. The temp that you select is indicated by bars not numbers. It's a little weird, but once you get the hang of it it works well.

This thermostat is discontinued because White Rodgers makes a new version of it, the 1F85RF-285. This thermostat will only do the "average".

    Q:

Will this thermostat only take temperature readings from the remote sensor, or does it take information form both the sensor and the base unit? I want to place the remote sensor in the lower level of the house to get the HVAC unit to run even if the the main floor of the house is at the correct temperature.
