Excellent Pump

Comments about Star S 21FX, 3-Speed Cast Iron Star Series Circulator, 1/12 HP:

The Wilo Star S21FX pumps are the best pumps I have ever used. they are quiet and powerful. The castings are heavy and the supplied gaskets are nice and thick. Having only 2 cap screws to change motor position is a real timesaver. The no-tools electrical connection is a real plus as well.

Good for pumping primary loop on small mod/con boiler on speed 3, as well as zoning fin tube baseboard with speed 1. Make your selection for radiant, cast iron, or steel panel based on your head loss calculation, etc.

Great Pump

Comments about Star S 21FX, 3-Speed Cast Iron Star Series Circulator, 1/12 HP:

I use these pumps to replace the original one speed pumps used on my wood boiler. The 3 speed allows you to choose the water flow needed to provide heat for the home. In my case the lowest setting works fine and it uses less electricy.

I installed this pump on my Hardy wood furnace. I have approximately 175 ft of 3/4 pipe with a 20 ft. rise straight up to my attic. It does the job as well as the expensive Taco I replaced.

The pump should have an indicator arrow on it, but if not the water comes in the top & out the bottom.

      Hi DJ,
This circulator (and most others) have a directional "arrow" cast into the iron body which helps the installer know which is the inlet and which is the outlet port.

The IN flange will feed water to the CENTER of the impeller
The OUT flange will take water from the outer edge or circumference of the
      impeller.
So with the pump standing on one end, the label facing you and the black
electric box on the left, (as pictured in pex supply) then OUT flange would
      be on top.

Wilo is a German company.  Since 2009 at least some of their pumps are made in the USA.  I have 4 of their circulator pumps.  Three of them are older than 2009.  The other is installed in such a tight place that I cannot see if it says "Made in USA".  I wish I could provide a better answer..  Sorry.

Not sure what you mean by "distance". The flange and the pump "mate"
together with only a gasket between them.

      Patty,

      is 6 and 3/8 inches.

    • VERIFIED BUYER

      A:

Note sure what the process is to answer a question, but I get 6 3/8" at the widest points on the flanges of one sample. The gaskets supplied fit within the flange and project out another 1/8" or so, on each end - this would require an opening of 6 5/8", or slightly more, to fit the pump between flat pipe flanges.

    Q:

Can I get this pump with a rotated flange?
Asked on 3/19/2012 by Geno from Canton, ny

    3 answers

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

This pump is a rotated flange model. The standard-flange version of it is part number 4105032. An easy rule of thumb is that all Wilo rotated flange pumps have an 'X' in their model number.

For domestic water applications you should be using a stainless steel or bronze pump. The cast iron pumps will eventually rust.
