Description

Taco Zone Sentry® Zone Valves provide on-off, normally open or normally closed control in both open and closed hydronic systems. The valves can be used in a wide variety of heating and cooling applications, primarily designed for use with baseboad, fan coils, radiators, convectors, air handlers, heat pumps and radiant applications.

The Taco Zone Sentry® is the most technologically advanced zone valve ever made. It's also simple to install and operate. The valve can be installed in any direction, in any orientation. We then went a step further, allowing the operator to be mounted to the valve body in either direction, great for those tight baseboard jobs. Snap-in quick connects on the back of the valve make for a simple, secure and fast wiring hook-up. A green LED light shows full functionality of the valve's operation and thermostat status. Under a no power situation the manual override button located on the top of the valve allows the ball to be rotated up to 90° and is also marked with a slot to indicate the position of the valve.

perfect replacement

These are an identical match for the valves that were originally installed in a boiler system in 2017. A quick way to check when you suspect one has gone bad is to swap one over from another zone of your system that you know is working (mine has 4 zones). They're easy to swap, a simple tension spring clip set up on the back for taking them on and off the valve. Just remember the order of the wires as you unscrew and put the same wires back in order on the new one. Replacing one is a less than 15 minutes job and saves hundreds in plumber fees.

Good product would not need to be purchased over and over

Less than 2 years ago our furnace was replaced and zones were made to be controlled by a Taco system and their valves. Since then two (that's 50%) of the actuators needed to be replaced. One was replaced under warranty, the other I decided to do myself (tired of paying the installer hundreds of $$ for their 10-minute "repair" visits). The new actuator that I bought from SupplyHouse works like a charm so far. I am sure that when it starts acting up again, I'll probably come to SupplyHouse again unless there will be another, less expensive option. If you have a choice of a system, do your own research. We weren't given a choice, the installer just went with Taco, pretty much using their own judgement. Of course we can blame ourselves only for picking that installer.

Worked as expected

This was a replacement I tried for the now unavailable Taco AN024Q4A2. These motors had been inconsistent for years, would turn for a half second and not open at times causing the fan to just blow cold air, and were very loud. The new ones are much quieter. So far so good. I was able to attach it to the existing valve and it works though does not attach as flush or sit as snug. The motor does what it needs and opens and closes the valve though. The existing wiring worked fine but needed to be swapped sides.

Good, except . . .

I ordered two zone valve actuators and the good news is that they came promptly and were the correct models. The somewhat bad news is that one of them was used, not new as promised, and had significant cosmetic damage - broken plastic. I needed them both and after I installed them they worked fine. I decided not to return the damaged one since it was/is working.

Good in general

Pros: Easy to replace, compact Cons: relatively expensive, after time become noisy, after approximately 8 years of service started to fail (have 8 of them and already replaced 6)
