If only sheet rock is there some people add a small frame around the opening or attach a corner bead to access door and use that on the backside of the sheet rock.
The manufacturer recommends FW-5050 models for ceiling applications.
Yes this can be used for ceilings that are rated. It has no smoke gasket though and is only operable with the key or screwdriver, we placed a larger one in an attic below a living space in a residential setting and had no problems with inspections. I didnt. But I don't see why you couldn't. Its a REAL simple door. Just frame it in strong to the ceiling joists; unlike a wall installation, you will be putting a bit more weight, and for a more extended time, getting through to the attic space during actual use. Hope this helps. Dann
