These boxes are the easy button.
I have 5/16" fiber cement lap siding and this was perfect. Cut a rectangular hole, stuff it in there and screw it in. I had access to the interior portion. Looks better than the ones my contractors put in. I ended up buying more and replacing the contractor installed ones.
