Lack of quality control
I bought two 6-FT80H thermometers. First thing I did was check accuracy by putting both in the same location in the refrigerator along with another (different brand) thermometer I verified to be dead on accurate at 32 degrees in an ice bath. One of the 6-FT80H thermometers matched the known accurate thermometer exactly and the other indicated 6 degrees low. The inaccurate thermometer was adjusted as far right on the background scale it could go before hitting the end of the housing, so it looks like the factory got it as close to accurate as they could and decided a 6 degree error was good enough to send out the door.
