I replaced a Matsushita DA51 compressor in a Kennmore (Whirlpool) fridge with this - that compressor was still cooling, but making increasingly alarming sounds on shut-down. This was the first time I've replaced a fridge compressor, and it went fairly well. The ports were aligned a little differently, but not big deal with some careful massaging of the lines. Make sure you get a new filter/drier and solder and flux here if you need them - many brick and mortar supply houses won't sell to "non-professionals." One thing I was uncertain on was whether this came with the start relay - which it does (no start capacitor needed nor included), so you've got everything you need electrically-speaking.
Digging through spec sheets, it seems this unit isn't as efficient as the one it replaces. Not a big deal to me; it's more important that it lasts, but it'd be nice. The modern stuff that has to be replaced every 5-10 years isn't saving you any money, that's for sure. So, just a minor quibble there. The other one is that there is more vibration than I expected. It didn't include the rubber "feet," so those weren't replaced, but the original ones weren't hard or brittle.
I'm only a few months in, but this seems to be working well. I returned a compressor from another source that came single-boxed and mashed-up; thankfully, Supply House packages their stuff better. I would have preferred the more efficient "correct" replacement, but it's just so hard to find a good supplier that I plan to find the closest fit here if I do another fridge. Anyway, don't let the nay-sayers scare you away if you've got the equipment and some know-how with refrigeration (I've repaired AC on my cars for a while). I wouldn't just jump in if you've never seated a pipe and don't know how refrigeration works, but the equipment needed to do the job costs pretty close to what you'd pay to have it done, and then you can fix your your friends fridge or your car's AC.
