I used a set of hot and cold Gerber ceramic cartridge/stems.To update my 1970s Gerber valve from rubber washer compression stems to this.You must remove the brass seat. I called Gerber he stated if seat is left on it will damage the ceramic cartridge body. I did as told and it works great. No more replacing the rubber washers every 1-year. Watch YouTube (Archive Gerber faucet cartridge.) to also confirm that another representative from Gerber also states you must remove seat. I know sometimes removing a faucet/tub seat can be a bear. I have rounded many before removing. I just take my time & Slowly hammer in the faucet seat wrench in until it bites turn. Repeat.Repeat. (Make sure seat wrench doesn't hit the back of valve you don't want to damage.)Also in video states "Gerber can not guarantee fit to valves prior to year 1990 because machining of the valves were not precise." Mines was a perfect fit.The beauty of Ceramic discs is they can go along time before changing. I have personally have seen ceramic cartridges one on a Delta valve go 12 years and one on an American Standard valve go 19 years before drip drip. Good Luck
