Great to prevent thermo syphoning

I use this valve in a solar system. A spring loaded check valve caused vibration and a lot of noise. So I replaced it with this one. Nice and smooth! No thermo syphoning (heat induced flow from the hot water tank to the collector/heat exchanger at night). It keeps the hot water in the tank at night when the upper part of the loop gets cold. Bad thing: You have to install it in a horizontal running pipe. So you need to plan on a horizontal leg somewhere in your loop.

1 of 4 leaked. Don't seem to completely close

I bought 4 for recirculating hot water in 4 return lines. I had a suspicion they weren't closing completely due to back flow when hot water was turned on. If I tap the valve I was able to get all 4 to close. Perhaps I don't have enough back flow pressure. After I removed pipe insulation I noticed one of the 4 was leaking at the little drain screw. I took it out and teflon taped it. It still leaked. I tightened it tighter 4 or 5 times until it stopped leaking but it felt like I was about to strip the bolt. I'll be sheetrocking over these 4 valve which with the one leaking makes me nervous.

Simple but does the job.

These type check valves are very simple and easy to service so used this type for a hot water recirculating system I installed. they are good quality and lead free.

Works as it should

Like another user I experienced thermosiphon in my solar hot water system. This lead free check valve stopped it cold, pun intended! It also leaked after installation - easily fixed by tightening the cap. The plastic gasket probably creeps under soldering heat.

Did not prevent backflow

I have nothing but good experiences with supply house but unfortunately this valve did not stop the backflow of water in my pipe.

Worked as they should

No issues with installation or operation. No leaks. They seemed well built for the price.

Great part at a great price!

Used to prevent unintended gravity circulation on multiple loops within the same zone. This has always been an issue since the central heating system was installed when my father was a small child. Great part for the price and for the first time ever the radiator by our back door cools off when there isn't a call for heat!

You can. Just ensure the arrow is pointing up!

you should be able to providing your flow direction is up not down.

Was this review helpful to you?

Maybe. I think it could work if water flow was going upwards (the valve is basically a flap that hangs from the top when fitting is installed horizontally). Good luck!

Swing check valves should be installed horizontally. Sent from my iPhone

Q: I need a check valve that I can adjust the pressure required to open the valve without removing the valve and adjusting the spring. Will this check valve do that?

No i dont think this valve is adjustable and does not have a spring. It is simply a hinged brass flap that will will only allow flow in one direction.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

This check valve is not adjustable. It is really just to prevent back flow.

Was this review helpful to you?
-

No,you cannot adjust the opening pressure on this check valve. It is actually not spring loaded, it works with gravity and needs to be mounted horizontally to work properly. The spring loaded types can be mounted in any direction, but the spring load - and therefore the pressure to open it - is always constant. I don't know of check valves that can be adjusted except by changing the spring. henrik

No its a swing type no spring

No adjustment, No sping. This is the easiest opening check valve made, it is just a swinging brass flapper. Milverton Plumbing

Hi, this check valve cant be adjust ( it works with the flow) You need a pressure differancal valve or something like that. Gus Envoyé de mon iPad

No, this valve is a 'swing' style check valve. I'm not aware of a 'check' valve that would allow pressure adjustment. A pressure by-pass valve might work in your application. LeeRen

NO, it is gravity or flow operated and has no spring

No, you would need to use a spring-loaded check valve for vertical applications.
